About the roleThe Public Safety Officer position supports Covenant House New York (CHNY)'s mission to maintain a safe and secure environment for its clients, staff, and visitors. Officers will implement comprehensive security measures and adapt to the organization's changing needs.What you'll doUnderstand and follow safety procedures.Detect problems and report information to appropriate personnel.Communicate effectively, both in writing and orally.Gather data, compile information, prepare, and write reports.Apply knowledge of searching procedures and safety inspections.Conduct safety patrols in and around buildings as assigned.Use basic computer skills, including Microsoft Word and Excel.Operate all departmental equipment, including radios, cameras, computers, and online applications.Listen and communicate calmly, effectively, and courteously in emergency and non‑emergency situations.Respond to calls for assistance with urgency.Conduct emergency drills according to prescribed procedures.De‑escalate/intervene in physical or verbal altercations.Work weekends, evenings/overnights, and holidays as needed.Perform other duties as assigned or required.QualificationsAt least one year of security experience.College degree preferred; high school diploma or equivalent required.Maintain a New York State security guard license throughout employment and complete any legally mandated training and in‑service requirements.CHNY is not responsible for security guard license fees.#J-18808-Ljbffr
