DescriptionThe City of Santa Ana is looking for individuals who are results-oriented, possess great attitude, demonstrate creativity and innovation, work efficiently, show a record of success and have a passion for public service. The job announcement will be posted for one (1) week from March 12, 2026 to March 18, 2026 for informational purposes only. Applications will not be accepted during this time. Under moderate supervision, performs routine library clerical work of limited complexity.
Essential Functions Include But Are Not Limited ToRegisters new borrowers, receives and checks out books using automated equipment and performs library clerical tasks as assigned. Prepares and sends overdue notices. Receives overdue fines and accounts for money received at library outlets. Assists in the mending of books, magazines and periodicals. Sorts and files materials alphabetically, numerically and by other pre-determined categories. Removes materials from files upon request. Sorts and routes incoming mail and prepares material for mailing. Delivers mail and interdepartmental messages. Answers routine public inquiries. Fills orders for office materials and supplies and receives shipments, checking quantities against invoices. Sorts, counts and files library card applications. Searches for, receives and issues books. Performs other functions as assigned.
Minimum QualificationsEducation and experience equivalent to graduation from high school. Some experience in general clerical and/or library clerical work which includes public contact, or any equivalent combination of training and experience, which provides the desirable knowledge, skills and abilities.
DESIRABLE KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES Knowledge of : English usage and basic arithmetic and cash handling; modern office procedures and practices; general library procedures for lending books; ability to use automated equipment; alphabetic and numeric systems for classifying and organizing library materials. Ability to: understand and follow oral and written instructions; make simple computations and listings with speed and accuracy; learn assigned clerical tasks quickly; adhere to prescribed routines and develop skill in common library procedures; deal tactfully with the public in routine matters; communicate orally and in writing in a clear, concise, and effective manner; establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees and the public. Special Working Conditions : Incumbents may be required to stand at a public counter for sustained periods. Incumbents frequently bend, stoop, kneel, reach, push, and pull drawers open and close to retrieve and shelve material. Incumbent must possess the ability to lift, carry, push, and pull materials and objects weighing up to 30 pounds. Must be willing and able to work evenings, holidays, and weekends on a rotational basis. SPECIAL MINIMUM REQUIREMENT Must possess and retain a valid California Class āCā Driver's License.
Bilingual fluency in Spanish or Vietnamese is highly desirable.

Written Examination (Tentatively scheduled to begin on April 3, 2026): (Qualifying) will include questions on reading comprehension, English usage, spelling, filing, checking, following directions, public contact, arithmetic, data entry, and may also include other job-related subjects.
Oral Interview Examination (Tentatively scheduled for April 23, 2026): (Weight of 100%) will evaluate the candidates' experience, training, education, and abilities in relation to those factors which are essential for successful performance on the job.
Candidates must achieve a passing score in every component of the selection process in order to be placed on the eligible list. The Human Resources Department may waive one or more examination components. When one weighted examination component is waived, the remaining section will receive a weight of 100%.
