Under general direction, this position participates with other auditors in the analysis, examination, investigation, and review of records, reports, and management practices to evaluate the effectiveness, efficiency, and equity of City programs and initiatives, compliance with legal and regulatory requirements, comparison to peer city and industry best practices, and other similar audit objectives.
Duties, Functions and Responsibilities:Essential duties and functions, pursuant to the Americans with Disabilities Act, may include the following. Other related duties may be assigned.
- Schedules and manages activities for appropriate-level audits and projects.
- Develops appropriate objective, scope, and methodology for the service that will be provided.
- Conducts interviews and meetings with external clients to elicit useful, relevant, and reliable information.
- Collects and analyzes both qualitative and quantitative data, extracting information that is significant to the project.
- Conducts research on subject matters related to the project.
- Documents information and conclusions in an organized and useful manner.
- Uses collected information to support conclusions.
- Develops clear, concise, timely, and accurate written summaries.
- Provides timely review and feedback on the work developed by other team members.
- Develops and delivers informative, clear, and concise presentations.
- Demonstrates increasing technical proficiency of performance auditing processes, procedures and techniques.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:Must possess required knowledge, skills, abilities, and experience and be able to explain and demonstrate, with or without reasonable accommodations, that the essential functions of the job can be performed.
- Knowledge and ability to adhere to appropriate professional standards, including the Government Auditing Standards.
- Knowledge of performance audit processes, procedures, and techniques, and the ability to exercise critical thinking and professional judgement.
- Ability to master steep learning curves regarding government organizations, programs, activities, functions, and, where applicable, their interrelations with the private and not for profit sectors.
- Ability to solicit, receive, analyze, and use information provided by office staff and external clients and stakeholders.
- Ability to maintain objectivity and implement appropriate standards of care in all scopes of work.
- Ability to complete assigned duties and functions in a timely and effective manner.
- Ability to demonstrate continuous learning and growth by developing a new skill or pursuing a professional certification.
- Ability to identify, obtain and analyze information from a variety of sources, evaluate facts, and employ sound deductive reasoning to draw appropriate conclusions, and where appropriate, make constructive recommendations to ensure compliance of auditing standards.
- Ability to learn and apply applicable laws, rules, and regulations, including the U.S. Constitution, the U.S. Federal Rules of Evidence and Government Auditing Standards.
- Skill in collecting information according to an established project plan.
- Skill in working with others to achieve a project goal or objective.
Minimum Qualifications:Graduation with a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.

Notes to Candidate:The Austin City Auditor’s Office seeks applicants for the Auditor I position.- This position is eligible for hybrid-remote work, with a requirement to attend in-person collaboration days twice per month. Residency in Texas is required, and the candidate must live within a 90-minute drive from downtown Austin.
