Description

Overview

This position is responsible for diagnosing and repairing mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, structural; fuel/lube, and hydraulic systems on all departmental equipment in compliance with safety standards. The role supports the foreman and heavy. equipment mechanic with in-house fleet repairs while primarily maintaining vehicles and equipment across both divisions to ensure adequate fuel, lubrication, and hydraulic fluid levels; Additional responsibilities include creating work orders, reqs and purchase orders; updating maintenance records and tracking department fuel consumptions.

Responsibilities

• Create work orders and provide quality control and safety over-watch

• Create requisitions and purchasing of fuel

• Updating maintenance records. Communicating with vendors, customers, and administrative and supervisory personnel

• Act as mechanic in his/her absence

• Safely service, diagnose, and/or repair vehicles and equipment using various techniques, tools, equipment, computers and systems to include but not limited to: brakes, steering, suspension, electrical systems, engines, hydraulics, cooling systems, fuel system, tires, and exhaust system

• Assist mechanic with large departmental repairs and coordinate with Supervisor

• Drive to different sites within the city limits for roadside services, mud pulls, jump starts, etc... Transport broken or repaired vehicles to and from vendors, customers and City facilities

• Perform service station duties when there is a problem with the pumps or sentry's and will advise Fleet administration when service calls are needed

• Perform routine repairs, replacements, and maintenance to tires on Solid Waste collection vehicles and heavy equipment to ensure safe, efficient, and uninterrupted operations for the department

• Performs bulk fuel pickups and deliveries in departments fuel tanker. Fuels and lubes all large equipment: grinder, dozer, loaders, etc. Responds to all fluid related requests

• Maintain a reasonably clean work area

• Remove spills, dry sweep and trash from work area prior to conclusion of each day

• May be asked to perform other duties as assigned

Position Type and Typical Hours of Work

• Non- Exempt - Full-Time

Minimum Qualifications

• High School Diploma / GED

• Two (2) years of experience

Licenses and Certifications

Required

• A valid Class A CDL required at time of hire; successful out-of-state candidates must be able to obtain a valid Texas driver's license within 90 days of hire

• Candidate must register with FMSCA Drug and Alcohol Clearinghouse

Required Within One (1) Year of Hire

• CDL Hazmat Endorsement

• CDL Tanker Endorsement

Basis of Rating

A recruitment consultant will evaluate all applications against the posted qualifications. The city may also conduct additional skill assessment tests, in addition to the panel interview.
