Description

Overview

Solid Waste Sanitation Foreman in the Brush Division is an Essential Services employee required to be available in times of natural disasters such as tropical storms and hurricanes. Creates and manages work schedules, assists the Superintendent with safety briefings and payroll duties. Conducts daily windshield assessment of collection area. Spot checks assigned field staff to ensure that safety measures are being followed. Provides coaching and supports staff development. Administers progressive discipline. Performs other duties as assigned.

Responsibilities

• Creates employee/equipment schedules; validates route changes due to staffing needs

• Ensures services are delivered safely, timely, and in compliance with regulations

• Conducts tailgate meetings as needed; verifies all employees have necessary PPE and equipment needed to safely complete the collections process

• Coordinates repairs and track preventative maintenance

• Cross trains with other SW departments to assist in foreman role as needed

• Spot-checks field personnel to ensure adherence to policies and safety procedures

• Provides leadership, guidance, and support to team members while out in the field by assisting with traffic control such as flagging and assisting with workload if needed

• Monitors the crew's well-being especially during extreme heat weather conditions by having a supply of hydrating supplies in assigned vehicle to be distributed to crews as needed

• Addresses and resolves field-related problems promptly such as vehicle breakdowns, irate customers, employee injuries, vehicle accidents, etc ...

• Communicates solutions and escalates issues to upper management as necessary

• Addresses late set outs, resolves 311 complaints same day

• Operates heavy equipment including brush and bulky item collection trucks, rear steer loaders, self-loading brush and bulky item collection trucks, forklifts and light pickup trucks

• Enforces safety standards and operational protocols

• Ensures compliance with environmental and municipal regulations. Records crew performance and operational data

• Maintains daily driver reports and ensures that vehicle issues listed on these reports are resolved promptly

• Provides technical and administrative supervisory functions such as working with Samsara system to monitor driver behavior, vehicle health, route completion and safety infraction alerts

• Completes time sheets, OT approval forms, accident/incident reports, and training records

• Issues disciplinary action as needed and documents these conversations with employees

• Coaches crew members to reinforce proper work practices and documents conversation

• Writes up and issues Counseling Conversation Summary as needed

• Establishes work schedules, assign routes, approve and monitor leave requests, and evaluate performance

• Use independent judgment and knowledge of departmental policies, procedures, and practices to respond to customer inquiries and resolving complaints concerning brush and bulky item collection services, interacting frequently with the general public

• Respond to extra-and intradepartmental request for assistance, i.e. mulch loading and transport, brush removal, large animal carcass removal

• May be asked to perform additional tasks as assigned

Position Type and Typical Hours of Work

• Non- Exempt - Full-Time

Minimum Qualifications

• High School Diploma/GED

• Two (2) years' experience

Licenses and Certifications

Required

• A valid Class B CDL driver's license is required at time of hire; successful out-of-state candidates must be able to obtain a valid Texas driver's license within 90 days of hire

• Candidate must register with FMSCA Drug and Alcohol Clearinghouse

Basis of Rating
