RoleYavapai County is seeking an experienced and forward-thinking leader to serve as its next
Director of Development Services . This executive-level position provides strategic direction and oversight for planning, zoning, permitting, building safety, and land use operations that support responsible growth and community development across the County. The ideal candidate will bring strong leadership, regulatory expertise, and a collaborative approach to guiding development initiatives while ensuring compliance with County policies and state regulation.
This position is based in Prescott, the County seat of Yavapai County. Nestled in the mountains of northern Arizona, Prescott offers four mild seasons, abundant outdoor recreation, and a vibrant historic downtown - providing and exceptional quality of life and an outstanding place to live and work.

Major Duties, Responsibilities- Administers all departmental, personnel, administrative, financial, and related matters in accordance with applicable regulations and administrative directives.
- Plans, organizes, and directs the activities of professional, technical, and clerical personnel in the compilations, analysis, and interpretation of data used in community planning, zoning, land use planning, water quality, wastewater disposal, and building safety.
- Prepares and administers the Development Services operation budgets, directs the forecast of additional funds needed for staffing, equipment, materials, and supplies. Administers approved budgets.
- Makes oral and written presentations to the Board of Supervisors, Planning and Zoning Commission, various committees, boards, and citizen groups.
- Coordinates departmental activities with other departments, local and State jurisdictions and Federal agencies.
- Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
Minimum QualificationsEducation: Bachelor’s degree in Public Administration or closely related field.
Experience: A minimum of ten (10) years of progressively responsible experience in public administration, to include a minimum of five (5) years in a supervisory capacity.
An equivalent combination of directly related work experience and education may substitute for the degree requirement on a year-per-year basis.
Additional Requirements:Must possess a valid Arizona driver’s license.
