Mediator (Seasonal) - Superior Court (Prescott & Camp Verde)
Description
RoleYavapai County is seeking a professional and impartial
seasonal Mediator to assist with civil case resolution services. This position facilitates structured negotiations in matters involving property, financial, contractual, and other civil disputes to help parties reach voluntary agreements.
The selected candidate must be able to work at both the Yavapai County Superior Court locations in Prescott and Camp Verde.
A bachelor’s degree in behavioral sciences or a related field is preferred. Experience in mediation or other civil settlement services is highly desirable.
Starting pay is $25.00 per hour until training is completed.
This is a seasonal position which is on-call or as needed not to exceed 1040 hours per fiscal year.
Major Duties, Responsibilities- Conducts domestic relations mediations as assigned in compliance with the Model Standards of Conduct for Mediators.
- Monitors mediation sessions for appropriateness. Clarifies participant expectations.
- Attends meetings and trainings as assigned by Yavapai County and ADR Services.
- Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
Minimum QualificationsEducation:High school diploma or equivalent.
Experience: No experience required.
Additional Requirements:Must possess a valid Arizona driver’s license.
Attend a mandatory 40-hour Basic Mediation Training as approved by ADR services within first year of employment.
Attend a mandatory 32-hour specialized Family Mediation Training as approved by ADR services within first year of employment.
Observe a minimum of six (6) domestic relations mediations in the Superior Court Domestic Relations Program within first year of employment.

Skill in: - Work under pressure in a highly dynamic work environment with changing demands and priorities.
- Work with a diverse group of individuals from varied social, educational, and cultural backgrounds, to include litigants, judges, court staff, attorneys, court ordered program participants and the public.
- Superior communication, negotiation, problem solving, analytical and conflict resolution skills.
Ability to: - Prioritize and organize work to meet daily deadlines established by ADR services.
- Be available to mediate a minimum of four times per month.
- Establish and maintain cooperative relationships with court employees, other court and non-court related agencies, representatives, and the public.
- Work under pressure in a dynamic environment with changing demands and priorities.
- Develop and maintain effective working relationships with associates, employees of other departments, representatives of other organizations, county officials, and the public.
- Keep management informed of key operating issues affecting the department.
- Remain current in knowledge required to perform assigned duties.
- Act with courtesy, tact, and diplomacy.
Work Environment:The work environment is associated with an office and/or courtroom setting. The work area is adequately lighted, heated/cooled and ventilated.
Physical Requirements:Ability to sit or stand for extended periods of time. Sufficient vision to read printed materials and a computer screen; hearing and speech ability to communicate
effectively in-person and telephonically. Capable of frequent repetitive movement of arms, fingers, and wrists. Ability to lift up to 30 pounds.
