An island community rich in history and opportunity, Galveston is the ideal place to live, work and raise a family!Job Description Job Summary: The Head Swim Coach’s primary responsibilities are to prepare and run a safe and efficient practice for registered swimmers. The coach must also assist with swim meets and parents as needed by the head coach.
Minimal Qualifications: - Must be at least Eighteen (18) years of age.
- Must pass background check and the urine drug screen.
- Must have a knowledge of 4 main strokes that we compete in. (Freestyle, Breaststroke, Butterfly, and Back stroke)
- Must be able to complete a 100-yard continuous swim using any combination of freestyle and/or breaststroke. This swim must be done with some front crawl with rhythmic breathing and breaststroke; backstroke is prohibited by the Red Cross.
- Must be able to tread water for 2 minutes, no hands, using legs only.
- Ability to communicate effectively with swimmers, parents, and other coaches.
- Ability to create/ run a workout for their designated age group while keeping swimmers’ safety in mind.
- Carry out given instructions.
- Ability to work in outdoor weather conditions - wet, hot, humid conditions for up to 5 hours/ day outside in semi-shaded area of guard chair.
Required current certifications, licenses and training: 1. Completed or able to complete the American Red Cross Safety Training for Swim Coaches course.
2. American Red Cross Professional CPR/AED
3. Complete an online Athlete Protection Training course
4. Complete an online Concussion Protocol Training
5. Rules and Regulations for Coaches Test
Work Schedule: 1. Shifts are generally 2 hours per day for 3 or 4 days a week.
2. Required to show up and help with swim meets on 4 or 5 Saturdays in June or July for about 8 hours.
Essential Job Tasks: 1. Show up to practice on time and ready to work.
2. Be an example for the swimmers on the team.
3. Listen to and respect Lasker management.
4. Treat all team members/ swimmers equal.
5. Ensure any documentation is completed, legible and turned in on time.
6. Able to access and utilize emergency rescue equipment.
7. Administer emergency medical care, first aid and CPR as required.
8. Abide by all written City of Galveston and Galveston Community Pool at Lasker Park policies and procedures.
9. All other duties as assigned.
