Full-time position available with the Parks & Recreation Department, Natural Resources Management Division located at 6901 Elmwood
Starting Salary: $24.77/hour
Normal Work Days/Hours: Monday-Friday, 7:00 a.m.-3:30 p.m.

Responsibilities
Key Responsibilities: - Leads the contract management process, including participation in bidding, evaluation, and selection of city-approved contractors for grounds maintenance services.
- Tracks and manages all budget expenditures associated with contracted mowing and landscaping operations.
- Verifies completion of contracted work cycles, assesses performance, ensures compliance with city standards, and authorizes payments accordingly.
- Assigns maintenance areas and work orders to approved contractors and ensures timely follow-up.
- Investigates and resolves 311 service requests related to mowing, landscaping, and grounds maintenance within assigned districts.
- Provides direct leadership to in-house field crews by supervising daily maintenance and landscaping activities.
- Manages mowing, trimming, litter-collection, and grounds-maintenance operations to ensure efficient and consistent service delivery.
- Conducts site inspections of both contractor and in-house work to maintain quality and adherence to service standards.
- Assigns daily tasks, monitors progress, and ensures appropriate resource allocation.
- Trains staff on the safe and proper operation of equipment, including mowers, trucks, trailers, and landscaping tools.
- Promotes best practices in workplace safety and risk management.
- Ensures compliance with established maintenance standards, departmental policies, and city regulations.
- Participates in citywide snow operations, emergency response efforts, storm cleanup, and other city-supported events as needed.
- Performs additional related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
REQUIRES high school graduation and 3 years experience of a progressively responsible nature in construction or maintenance work including 1 year leading the work of general laboring or maintenance crews. Must pass a pre-employment drug screen and post-offer physical examination as prescribed by the City.

The minimum education requirement for positions that allow for experience equivalency for an accredited degree is a high school diploma. Unless otherwise specified, an accredited degree must be obtained from a college or university listed with the U.S. Department of Education and recognized by the U.S. Secretary of Education.
For positions with a salary grade of EX6 or higher that require an accredited degree, qualifying professional experience must be obtained AFTER the accredited degree is obtained. Successful completion of a pre-employment criminal history/background check is required for all positions. Some positions require a post offer drug screen and/or physical.
If appointed, non-residents must obtain residency inside Kansas City, Missouri's city limits within nine months.
