The Fresno County Department of Social Services invites applications for the position of Social Worker I.

The Social Worker classification series is responsible for assisting clients to cope with or reduce social, economic, environmental or emotional problems. This is accomplished through case management methodologies and techniques including a knowledge of interviewing skills, individual case counseling, use of community resources, advocacy services, and when necessary, direct intervention on the client's behalf .

Please note : The eligible list established from this recruitment may be used to fill both extra-help and permanently allocated positions. Individuals selected for extra-help appointment may be transitioned to a permanently allocated position at a later date as authorized by the Fresno County Personnel Rules.

Minimum Qualifications

Education : Possession of a bachelor's degree in Social Work, Sociology, Psychology or a closely related field that is acceptable within the United States' accredited college or university system. ( Spring graduates are encouraged to apply and must submit a confirmation letter from your college or university stating you are within 90 days of completion of a bachelor’s degree in Social Work, Sociology, Psychology or a closely related social/behavioral science field ).

License : Possession of a valid Class "C" driver's license, or equivalent, may be required.

Note : As a condition of employment, selected candidates may be required to obtain and maintain security clearance to access Fresno County detention facilities.

These investigations include employment/credit histories, verification of education, arrest/criminal records, drug/alcohol use, and personal conduct. SELECTION PROCESS:

Pursuant to Fresno County Personnel Rule 4 - Selection Process, applicants may be required to complete an examination process and successful candidates will be placed on an employment list effective for a minimum of 3 months and certified in final rank order as vacancies occur.
