Code Compliance Officer I
Description
Overview Under direct supervision, investigates and enforces the applicable property maintenance codes, laws, and ordinances of the City of Corpus Christi. Responds and works with citizens to bring properties into compliance when applicable and brings violations to fruition through citations when necessary. Patrols a specific council district investigating/ensuring applicable City property maintenance codes are adhered to.
Responsibilities • Investigates property maintenance violations applicable to City codes, ordinances, and laws. Documents property issues via photographic and written documentation. Contracts citizens regarding ongoing investigations to assist in abatement efforts or issuance of citation
• Removes signs from utility poles, right-of-way's, and works to communicate sign ordinance with offenders. Coordinates with citizens and other departments to resolve violations prior to citation. Provides information to citizen regarding abatement assistance
• Documents all investigations in applicable softwares (Infor or GovQA) to generate narratives for each case as needed. Conducts compliance follow-ups on active cases and conducts property visits to ensure compliance with property maintenance codes
• Will conduct public outreach regarding applicable laws with an emphasis on property maintenance codes
• Proactively pursues work without permit operations. Conducts frequent contractor license checks
Position Type and Typical Hours of Work • Non-Exempt - Full-Time
• Non-Rotating 40-hour work week, Monday - Friday, 8:00am - 5:00pm; must be available to work additional hours as needed.
• In the event of an emergency, employees are required to work to provide for the safety and well-being of the public, including the delivery and restoration of vital services.

Qualifications • High School Diploma/ GED
• Six months to one year of experience
Licenses and Certifications Required • Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation Registered/Licensed Code Enforcement Officer within eighteen (18) months of hire
• Will be required to obtain CJIS Security and Awareness Training Level 1 within six (6) months of hire
• A valid driver's license is required; successful out-of-state candidates must be able to obtain a valid Texas driver's license within 90 days of hire

Basis of Rating A recruitment consultant will evaluate all applications against the posted qualifications and may request additional information. The city may also conduct additional skill assessment tests, in addition to the panel interview.
