Behavior Support Professional 2041 E. Hunter Street, Nevada, MO Semi Monthly Salary: $2,020.53 (Pay Grade G7)Date: December 12, 2025The Missouri Department of Mental Health has an opening for a Behavior Support Specialist (working title) at Southwest Community Services located in Nevada. The classified job title for this position is Support Care Professional and has no supervisory job duties. The working hours are Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., but flexibility in work schedule will be required at times, in order to provide support across all work shifts.
Responsibilities: This position: serves as a member of the State-operated Program (SOP) - Behavior Team; possesses certification or completes training to become a Registered Behavior Technician (RBT) through the Behavior Analysis Certification Board within 6 months of hire date; acquires certification as a trainer of Safety Care through QBS; assists in the preparation, review, and graphing of behavior and sleep data for individuals served by Southwest Community Services; conducts behavioral service fidelity checks to ensure plan adherence by Direct Care Staff (DCS); assists the Behavior Analyst (BA) in the functional behavioral assessment (FBA) process for individuals requiring behavioral services and subsequently assists in the development of behavior support plans for individuals requiring this level of support; participates as a member of the Joint Behavior Support Committee(JBSC) and due process committee; assists in the remedial training of staff as necessary; prepares progress notes, and other reports/data as required; assists in the development of BSPs as needed to incorporate up-to-date strategies for individuals whose services abruptly change; and implements and carries out others duties as requested by the BA or Director. This position is supervised by the Southwest Community Services BA.
Knowledge, skills and abilities: Must successfully complete 40-hour training and subsequent certification as a RBT within 6 months of hire; must successfully complete Advanced Safety Care Training and Behavior Technician Training within three months of hire; possess excellent written and verbal communication skills; demonstrate patience and compassion; possess excellent interpersonal skills; work well with a variety of different individuals; exhibit ability to think quickly and act calmly in an emergency; demonstrate strong organizational skills; communicate clearly and effectively; possess strong listening skills; demonstrate awareness of proper first aid, CPR, and emergency response procedures; maintain friendly and open demeanor at all times; possess a sincere interest in helping others achieve life goals.
Typical qualifications: Bachelor’s degree or 4 or more years of relevant experience. (Substitutions may be allowed. A high school diploma or equivalent and a valid driver’s license is also required.
