A Civil Engineering Assistant is responsible for the following essential functions:


Requirements

SPECIALTY REQUIREMENTS:

Current Round 2 GEM (The National GEM Consortium)* Applicant AND a Bachelor's degree or higher** from an accredited college or university with specialization in a civil engineering curriculum approved by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET)***
Withhold information:
If you will meet the requirements within six months of the end of the filing period, then you can still apply for this exam. However, we will not include you on the list sent to hiring managers until you provide proof of meeting the requirements.
Special requirement information:
*Must be a "Round 2 GEM Applicant." Applicants MUST provide a legible copy of their GEM notification of "Round 2" status.

**To receive credit for your education, include a legible copy of your official diploma, official transcript, or letter/certificate from an accredited institution with seven (7) days of the end of the filing period. The document should show the date the degree was conferred and be in English; if it is in a foreign language, it must be translated and evaluated for equivalency to U.S. standards. ***A qualifying degree is one where either the undergraduate or postgraduate civil engineering curriculum is accredited by ABET, as supported by the California Department of Consumer Affairs.

Applicants with degrees from foreign universities will be accepted ONLY if evaluated and deemed to be equivalent to degrees from United States accredited institutions by an academic credential evaluation agency recognized by The National Association of Credential Evaluation Services or Association of International Credential Evaluation, Inc. (AICE).

Applications submitted that do not include the referenced documents will be marked as incomplete:
1) a copy of the GEM notification of Round 2 status, and 2) a copy of the diploma/official transcripts.

If you are a veteran, you may be eligible for veteran's credit, which is an additional 10% of the total points added to a passing score. We will need a copy of your form DD214 to review, so please include that with your application or email to the exam analyst at klent@hr.lacounty.gov .
License:
A valid California Class C Driver's License or the ability to use an alternative method of transportation when needed to carry out job-related duties.
Physical class:
Physical Class II - Light: This class includes administrative and clerical positions requiring light physical effort that may include occasional light lifting to a 10-pound limit and some bending, stooping, or squatting. Considerable ambulation may be involved.

Additional Information

This examination will consist of a multiple choice and/or simulation assessment(s), weighted 100%, assessing:

Testing will take place on March 18, 2025.

Some exam materials shall not be subject to review. Multiple choice and/or simulation assessments are not reviewable by candidates per CSR 7.19.

APPLICANTS MUST MEET THE SPECIALTY REQUIREMENT AND ACHIEVE A PASSING SCORE OF 70% OR HIGHER ON THE EXAMINATION IN ORDER TO BE PLACED ON THE ELIGIBLE LIST.

Eligibility information:
The names of candidates receiving a passing grade in the examination will be placed on the eligible list in the order of their score group for a period of six (6) months following the date of promulgation.

SPECIAL INFORMATION:
The County of Los Angeles is a Fair Chance employer.
