Requirements

MOS Codes: A12A (Navy), 0531 (Marine Corps), 46S (Army), 3N000 (Air Force)

Education and Experience : A Bachelor's degree or higher in Business or Public Administration, Journalism, Public Relations, Mass Communication, or related field, plus two (2) years of mass communications, public relations, marketing or publicity experience, including one (1) year in a lead or supervisory capacity.

Licenses and Certificates : Valid Texas Class "C" Driver's License or equivalent issued by another state.

General Purpose

Under direction, coordinate development and dissemination of public information pertaining to operations and services of assigned department.

Typical Duties

Manage public information for assigned departments. Involves: Research, coordinate, prepare and respond to media requests. Set up press briefings and share information on behalf of departments. Work with Communication and Public Affairs to coordinate necessary press conferences; coordinate with the Emergency Management Coordinator and departments to share information. Ensure website is updated; use social media to share information.

Oversee and Coordinate p ublications, c ommunity and employee e-newsletter, employee weekly broadcast, online annual report, brochures/posters and department webpages. Involves: Write, compose, edit, assemble and communicate material for internal and public distribution. Update digital signage on daily basis with information for public and employees to include emergency messages as necessary. Coordinate PowerPoint presentation for City Council Meetings. Assist City Manager/CM Leadership Team in creation of informative presentations for speaking engagements and public affairs issues.

Develop, manage and participate in social media. Involves: Actively participate in a wide variety of social media activities such as Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, and blogging. Manage Cable Channel -15 programming/event coverage, Public Service Announcement (PSA), and monthly event calendar. Strategize and educate departments and others on incorporating relevant social media techniques into the organization's culture and into all organization's services. Measure the impact of social media and marketing efforts.

Supervise assigned personnel. Involves: Schedule, assign, instruct, guide and check work. Appraise employee performance. Provide for training and development. Enforce personnel rules and regulations and work behavior standards firmly and impartially. Counsel, motivate and maintain harmony. Interview applicants. Recommend hiring, termination, transfers, discipline, merit pay or other employee status changes.
