Equipment Technician I: - Graduation from an accredited high school or equivalent, plus two (2) years experience in repair and maintenance of electronic controlled pneumatic and hydraulic equipment.
- One additional year of relevant work experience may substitute for one year of the required education with a maximum substitution of four years.

Position Overview: This Equipment Technician I will be responsible for the safe and proper maintenance and repair of a variety of equipment including but not limited to: high dollar camera-related equipment including fiber optics; pumps, motors, small motorized equipment like lawn mowers, weed eaters, chain saws; and some fabrication. This position will work with customers and other City Departments to coordinate repairs and communicate associated expenses.

Physical Requirements:This position will require that you be able to perform the following essential job functions with confidence and with or without reasonable accommodations:
- Carrying or lifting up to 50lbs., pushing or pulling up to 50lbs., frequent sitting, standing, walking, climbing stairs and ladders, reaching overhead, kneeling, stooping/bending, twisting, repetitive hand and foot movement, far and near vision, client/customer contact, ability to drive vehicles and equipment, frequent grasping, squeezing and finger dexterity, exposure to atmospheric conditions, hazardous conditions and very loud noise, and ability to wear appropriate personal protective equipment.

- Selected candidate will be required to complete and pass a physical exam.
Travel: If you are selected for this position, and meet the Driver Safety Standards in the City of Austin
Driver Safety Program , you may drive when necessary to multiple locations as part of your regular job duties. Otherwise, you are responsible for getting to and from these locations.

Pay Range
$22.82 - $25.78
Hours
- Monday - Friday; 6:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m., with some flexibility.
- Other hours as required to meet the needs of 24/7 utility operations.

- Experience acting in a lead role for an equipment repair facility or mechanic shop.
- Demonstrated experience providing excellent internal and external customer service, facilitating resolution of customer issues.
- Experience scheduling and performing preventative and corrective maintenance, assembly, troubleshooting, and repairs to complex mechanical equipment
- Work Order System or Computerized Maintenance Management ( CMMS ) experience and the ability to collect and analyze historical data, identify trends, and make equipment repair recommendations based on your analysis.
- Professional experience repairing and maintaining small engine equipment such as quickie saws, walk-behind saws, street tampers, trash pumps, and hydraulic equipment.
- Professional experience repairing and maintaining high dollar pipe inspections equipment including fiber optics/coax, cameras, and some fabrication.
- Ability to travel to more than one work location.
Duties, Functions and Responsibilities

1. Conducts routine inspections of equipment.
2. Performs preventative maintenance and troubleshooting of equipment.
3. Performs electromechanical repairs to complex equipment.
4. Modifies or refurbishes equipment.
5. Estimates time, labor and materials for budget or billing purposes.
6. Performs welding, braising or fabrication of some parts.
7. Maintains technical data on equipment to be service.

Knowledge of symbols used in engineering drawing, circuit diagrams or schematics.
Knowledge of basic operations of small electric motors and pneumatic or hydraulic pumps.
Knowledge of safety in repair of energized electronic equipment.
Knowledge of welding, braising, and bonding materials.
Knowledge of testing of electronic components.
Knowledge of basic inventory and billing record keeping.
Skill in oral and written communication.
Skill in handling multiple tasks and prioritizing.
Skill in planning and organizing.
Ability to test and calibrate equipment or controls to close tolerance.
Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, circuit diagrams or schematics.
Ability to establish and maintain good working relationships with other city employees and the public.
