Description
Job Summary: Under general direction, the Facilities Maintenance Mechanic will support the Palm Desert Campus (PDC) by independently performing a variety of skilled preventative and general maintenance repair, construction, and renovation work on facilities and systems. The Facilities Maintenance Mechanic is a skilled generalist performing at a journey-level in one trade with strong skills in other trades.
Duties and responsibilities - Independently performs a variety of skilled and semi-skilled facilities maintenance tasks, including and not limited to plumbing, HVAC mechanical work, carpentry, flooring repair and maintenance, electrical work on de-energized systems, assisting with troubleshooting energized systems, drywall patching, texturing, painting, concrete work, concrete finishing, and order supplies and materials.
- Documents and completes work orders in the Computerized Maintenance Management Software (CMMS).
- Perform corrective and preventive maintenance, including but not limited to operating, testing, installing, and repairing systems and equipment.
- Document all work done on work orders, including the results of the maintenance performed via WebTMA.
- Request corrective work orders for repairs.
- Maintain well-organized and accurate records.
- Communicate repair needs to the supervisor and manager to support efficient facility operations.
- Collaborates with all other trades as required to maintain the Palm Desert Campus (PDC). Performs duties in accordance with proper procedures, general trade practices, and the appropriate tools to complete tasks efficiently.
- Performs electrical maintenance including but not limited to checking outlets, and switches, replacing incandescent, fluorescent, and modern lights, cleaning fixtures, replacing ballast, assisting in troubleshooting energized circuits, pulling wires, and assisting in the installation of new electrical circuits, all while assuring safety for electrical work.
- Conducts routine inspections, maintenance, and adjustments on door locks, panic exit hardware, door closers, and electronic access control locks.
- Lubricates and cleans all door hardware to maintain proper operating conditions and security.
- Performs maintenance, repair, and install plumbing fixtures, drinking fountains, and other water and sewage systems.
- All duties are performed per industry standards and in a professional manner.
- Sets up, rearranges, and dismantles furniture and equipment in meeting rooms and classrooms. Assists with event preparations, including setup, teardown, and related tasks, to support campus events as directed.
- Performs other classification-related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications: - These abilities normally would be acquired through four years of increasingly responsible experience leading to journey-level skills in a mechanical or facilities/building trade or any equivalent combination of training and experience as a facilities and systems mechanic which demonstrates the achievement of journey-level skills equivalent to that acquired through completion of an applicable apprenticeship program.
- Valid CA Driver’s License
Required Qualifications: - Knowledge: Work requires a thorough understanding of the methods, materials, equipment, and tools used in one skilled trade area; working knowledge of materials, methods, equipment, and tools in related trade areas on facilities, systems, construction, and renovation; thorough understanding of generally accepted trade practices in trade specialty; working knowledge of computerized maintenance and building automation systems; working knowledge of applicable building and safety codes and regulations related to facilities, systems, and renovations.
- Abilities: Must be able to demonstrate journey-level skill in one trade and strong skills in other applicable trades; operate construction and related equipment; use considerable judgment and discretion in performing duties; read, interpret, and work from blueprints, plans, drawings, and specifications; make rough sketches; estimate cost, time and materials of maintenance, repair and renovation work; maintain records and retrieve data related to work performed using manual and/or computerized record-keeping systems; prepare standard reports; provide instruction to unskilled and semi-skilled assistants; analyze and respond to emergencies; read and write at a level appropriate to the position; and perform arithmetic calculations as required by the position.
Compensation and Benefits: Anticipation Salary Range: $6,400 per month
Classification Salary Range: $6,076 - 7,766 per month
The salary offered will take into account internal equity and experience among other factors.

Physical Exam Employment is contingent upon candidate passing a pre-employment physical exam with the ability to lift in excess of 50 lbs.

Campus Security Authority This position is designated as a Campus Security Authority (CSA) position under the federal Jeanne Cleary Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act. CSAs are responsible for reporting allegations of Clery Act Crimes reported to them or that they witness. CSA training is required.
