Geodetic Technician - Public Works (Camp Verde)
Description
RoleThe Public Works department is seeking a skilled and motivated Geodetic Technician to join our team at the Camp Verde location.Under general supervision, the technician will perform technical and supervisory tasks related to survey crew operations of considerable complexity. Responsibilities include conducting field surveys of real property utilizing highly accurate GPS equipment, as well as conventional survey techniques such as topographical surveys, boundary surveys, and construction layout. Additionally, the technician will be responsible for performing calculations and processing data using survey-specific controllers and software.
Major Duties, Responsibilities- Performs technical surveys on a Global Positioning survey crew. Operates and maintains conventional survey equipment, records field notes.
- Performs routine computations in the preparation of survey data. Analyzes and interprets construction plans and records of survey. Prepares GPS horizontal and vertical controls.
- Downloads survey data, edits for accuracy; maintains conventional and computerized files.
- Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
Minimum QualificationsEducation: High school diploma or equivalent.
Experience: A minimum of two (2) years of experience in surveying or related field.
Additional Requirements:Must possess a valid Arizona driver’s license.
Other SkillsRequired Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Knowledge of:- GPS equipment and tools and ability to use equipment to perform the work.
- GPS Survey Software.
- Business English, spelling, grammar, punctuation, and composition.
- Clerical office practices and procedures.
- Research techniques and report writing.
- Current Microsoft Office software.
- Filing and recordkeeping.
Skill in:- Algebra, trigonometry, and geometry.
- Using electronic and mechanical surveying equipment.
- Communicating effectively verbally and in writing and communicating orally in a face-to-face setting and by telephone with public and employees.
- Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with employees, other agencies, and the public.
- Organization and adherence to detail.
Ability to:- Analyze problems and recommend solutions.
- Develop and maintain effective working relationships with associates, employees of other departments, representatives of other organizations, County officials, and the public.
- Keep management informed of key operating issues affecting the department.
- Remain current in knowledge required to perform assigned duties.
- Handle confidential matters and maintain discretion always.
- Act with courtesy, tact, and diplomacy.
Work Environment:The work environment is associated with an office and performing fieldwork. Occasional exposure to objectionable conditions or variations such as those found in variable weather conditions.
Physical Requirements:Ability to sit or stand for extended periods of time. Sufficient vision to read printed materials and a computer screen; hearing and speech ability to communicate effective in-person and telephonically. Capable of frequent repetitive movement of arms, fingers, and wrists. Ability to crouch, bend, stoop, walk over rough, uneven, and/or rocky surfaces, and lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
