A New Opportunity and what you’ll do...The City of Ventura is seeking a passionate and motivated individual to join the Public Works Department’s Environmental Sustainability Division as an
Environmental Services Assistant (Extra-Help). This part-time, extra-help position offers an opportunity to support the City’s environmental programs, engage with the community, and promote sustainability initiatives. Environmental Services Assistants are temporary part-time extra help, positions, working approximately 20 hours per week, to a maximum of 1,000 hours per fiscal year. Weekend shifts may be required.
What You’ll Do:Under general supervision, the extra-help Environmental Services Assistant reports to the Environmental Services Specialist and supports the City of Ventura’s environmental programs. This position assists with outreach and implementation efforts for various initiatives, including the Green Schools Program, Green Business Program, waste and recycling programs, public events, and public education initiatives. Responsibilities include creating social media content, the Sustainable Ventura newsletter, and other outreach platforms to educate the public and promote the Division’s programs and events.
Examples of Duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:
• Assist with outreach and education efforts related to the City’s environmental programs.
• Coordinate and participate in public events that promote environmental sustainability and recycling initiatives.
• Conduct research and assist in the development of materials related to environmental policies and best practices.
• Assist with administrative tasks, including data entry and tracking program participation.
• Provide customer service and respond to inquiries regarding environmental programs and events.
• Other related duties as assigned.
Experience and Qualifications for Success! A combination of education, training, and experience equivalent to two years of college coursework in business administration, environmental sciences, or a related field and 6 months of experience in data collection or clerical record keeping are required.
Bilingual (Spanish) is highly desirable.
License: Depending on assignment, possession of a valid California Class C driver's license may be required.
When assigned to K-12 classroom presentations, the incumbent must undergo live scan fingerprinting and provide proof of a negative tuberculosis test result within the last two years.

Salary:
$17.26 - 20.11 Hourly
