The Fresno County Department of Public Works and Planning is offering exciting career opportunities for motivated and dedicated individuals interested in becoming an Engineer I.

Incumbents in the Engineer classification series are assigned to various programs including: Construction, Design, Development Services, Road Maintenance & Operations, or Resources.

Engineer I is the entry level classification in the Engineer series. Assignments are subject to close review and evaluation. Engineer I incumbents are hired on a provisional basis and are required to meet the minimum qualifications and advance to the Engineer II level within two years or separate from County service.

Positions in this classification are in Medical Group III - Heavy Physical Activity (Personnel Rule 8). This group includes positions which require heavy physical effort using arms, legs, back and trunk in frequent lifting, pushing, or pulling objects weighing (or offering resistance equivalent to) over 25 pounds. Generally, considerable bending, stooping, squatting, twisting, reaching, as well as standing and walking are involved. Physical stamina is usually required and explosive strength using bursts of energy may be required, depending upon specific position assignments.

Minimum Qualifications

OPTION 1 :

Education : Possession of a bachelor's degree in Civil, Mechanical, Electrical, Architectural, or Structural Engineering or a closely related field that is acceptable within the United States' accredited college or university system.

OPTION 2 :

Registration : Valid certification as an Engineer-in-Training issued by the State of California, Board of Registration for Professional Engineers.

The following information is in addition to the options listed above:

License : Possession of a valid Class "C" driver's license, or equivalent, may be required.

Note : Permanent status may not be obtained in this classification. Incumbents must advance to the Engineer II classification within two (2) years from the date of initial employment or be rejected during the provisional appointment.

Successful candidates will be placed on an employment list, effective for a minimum of 3 months (may be extended up to 12 months from the date of establishment), and certified in final rank order as vacancies occur.
