Under the direct supervision of the Regional Park Maintenance Supervisor, SG-18, the incumbent will be responsible for undertaking the following duties and responsibilities in a safe and proficient manner:
• Supervise, guide, mentor, and support the Allegany Regional Carpenter Crew in the work of construction, installation, maintenance, and repair of doors, flooring, windows, trim, sashes, partitions, cabinetry, and other building components and infrastructure as assigned.
• Assign and lay out carpentry tasks for the crew, ensuring work adheres to plans and specifications.
• Collaborate with and supervise other trades as needed, including Masons, Sign Shop, and Paint Shop personnel.
• Provide daily technical direction and support to crew members.
• Read architectural blueprints and interpret construction plans.
• Enforce agency time and attendance rules, and approve subordinate employees’ timesheets.
• Periodically prepare written evaluations of subordinates and ensure they receive necessary training.
• Coordinate and oversee all activities to ensure timely completion of projects.
• Maintain regular communication with the Regional Park Maintenance Supervisor, engineering staff, and other departments.
• Ensure projects are carried out within established operating guidelines and budget constraints.
• Schedule crew members and resources efficiently to ensure work is performed safely and economically.
• Coordinate logistics for approved projects and ensure the work is completed in the correct sequence by staff and contractors.
• Monitor inventory levels and procure necessary materials, tools, and supplies, submitting written quotes and justifications to the Regional Park Maintenance Supervisor.
• Ensure all materials, supplies, and tools
• Operate and train staff in the safe and proper use of tools and equipment.
• Maintain inventory of departmental tools and supplies, conducting quarterly audits with the regional audit staff.
• Observe, inspect, and ensure work is performed according to standards; take corrective action as needed.
• Prepare and submit weekly progress reports to the Regional Park Maintenance Supervisor.
• Ensure preventative maintenance is performed on vehicles and equipment, maintaining electronic records.
• Utilize office equipment (computers, phones, printers, scanners) to perform administrative tasks such as email correspondence, report preparation, and data management.
• Maintain inventory databases, review and approve timesheets, draft memos, and assist with other office-related tasks.
• Represent the carpenter crew at weekly regional maintenance and project meetings.
• Evaluate equipment and staff readiness for unscheduled emergency response situations.
• Assist in emergency response functions as assigned.
• Adhere to the agency’s Code of Conduct Policy and ensure compliance with all guidelines, policies, and procedures in the performance of daily tasks across all areas of responsibility.

Minimum Qualifications

One year of experience as a skilled journey-level carpenter subsequent to the completion of apprenticeship or equivalent training and experience.

When required to operate motor vehicles, candidates must possess a valid driver's license appropriate for the type of vehicle to be operated.

Additional Comments

OPERATIONAL NEEDS:
• Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license that allows the candidate to legally operate a motor vehicle in New York State as a term and condition of employment.
• Must have a working knowledge of basic and advanced carpentry techniques, including the math required for the trade.
• Must have a working knowledge of supervisory principles.
• Must have a basic knowledge of the practices and techniques of trades supervised other than carpentry; i.e. commercial painting, masonry, and sign-making.
• Must have the ability to perform the physical tasks required of a carpenter, including working at height.
• Must possess working knowledge of appropriate NYS building and construction code regulations.
• WORK SCHEDULE: Monday - Friday (may vary and include weekends and holidays)
• WORK SHIFT: 7:00 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. (may vary and include evenings)
