Architectural/Engineering Assistant (Taconic Region)
Description
Duties Description Duties and Responsibilities:
The candidate shall be prepared to:
-Work closely with architects, landscape architects, and engineers within the Capital Design and Construction Group and with Regional Operation Staff on projects that involve capital improvements. Projects are generally located with the Hudson Valley District.
-Work closely with designers involved in development, improvement, and maintenance of assets such as buildings, landscapes, and infrastructure with park or historic site settings.
-Assist district project managers with current projects. This may include attendance at meetings, participation in research, field work, routine office tasks such as printing, filing, shipping/mailing, organizing, etc.
-Other duties may include performance of construction inspections, quantity takeoffs, schedule management, facility infrastructure inventory, assisting with specification writing, and material orders.
-Conduct and/or participate in outdoor field work including existing condition surveys, studies, photography, underground mapping, geo-mapping.
-Attend meetings, take notes and prepare minutes when directed to do so.
-Assist with or perform field surveys and the gathering of existing field conditions using NYS State owned equipment.
-Assist the District Embodied Carbon staff in the data collection, management, and entry into the Embodied Carbon in Construction Calculator (EC3) for district projects.
-Develop studies and reports involving topics connected to climate action, embodied carbon reduction, low carbon materials, energy efficiency, and green infrastructure, and sustainable site design.
-Work with limited direction and supervision.
-Assist with the information management required by SEQR and SHPO reviews.
Minimum Qualifications Minimum Qualifications & Requirements:
· Possess a valid Driver’s license with no restrictions.
· Experience with geo-mapping.
· Proficient in word processing and spreadsheet skills.
· Ability to read/ interpret plans, details, and specifications.
· Knowledge of construction materials, tools, equipment, and methods.
Other Desirable Experience
· CAD experience/ willingness to learn.
· Survey experience/ willingness to learn.
Additional Comments The Office of Parks, Recreation & Historic Preservation is recruiting to fill two (2) Architectural/Engineering Assistant positions. The location of these position will be in Palisades, Saratoga and/or Taconic.
