THE POSITION Under general direction, the incumbent will perform complex and highly responsible clerical work required in the maintenance of fiscal and statistical records. Tasks may include processing purchase requisitions and invoices, monthly reconciliation of County purchasing card transactions, monthly reconciliation of vendor statements to invoices, processing journal entries, preparing complex calculations for cost allocation purposes, cost accounting functions, auditing payroll, assisting human resources, use of various software including Cost Accounting Management System, PeopleSoft, Microsoft Access Database, Oracle Cloud modules, and other related work as assigned. The ideal candidate for the Accounting Technician position is a detail-oriented and analytical professional with a solid understanding of accounting principles and a commitment to accuracy. They have experience maintaining journals, ledgers, and financial records, as well as preparing comprehensive reports on revenues and expenditures. This individual excels at compiling and analyzing complex data, reconciling accounts, and processing financial transactions such as accounts payable and payroll. They are proficient in computerized accounting systems, spreadsheets, and word processing applications, and demonstrate the ability to streamline processes using both manual and automated procedures. Unless otherwise provided, this position is part of the Classified Service of the County and is assigned to the Office Worker/Clerical bargaining unit for labor relations purposes. Individuals who are in a full-time classified position are required to serve a twelve-month probationary period, which may be extended an additional six months for a total of eighteen months. Incumbents may also be subject to overtime, standby, callback, weekend, holiday and shift assignments as identified in their MOU (Memorandum of Understanding).
