The City of Weatherford is looking for a Director of Public Works.
Under the general direction of the Assistant City Manager, the Director of Public Works manages and directs all aspects of the City’s Public Works Department and its operations.

Roles & Responsibilities Include:- Provides leadership and management for short and long-range planning and operation of the department, including street, drainage and traffic operations, engineering, inspection, and construction of capital improvements for street, traffic, drainage, water, wastewater and facility projects, and management of right-of-way and real property.
- Manages personnel for the safe and effective operation of the City’s transportation and drainage systems.
- Coordinates all Public Works Department activities with other City departments, contractors and other agencies.
- Prepares and submits, with required documentation, the annual budget request for the department.
- Provides value-added services that meet or exceed customer/citizen expectations.
- Provides oversight of City Engineer authority and renders decisions on development requirements in the City and ETJ.
- Oversees the preparation of master plans and impact fee program updates for street, drainage, water, and wastewater infrastructure projects.
- Oversees the development of department agenda items and provides presentations at Municipal Utility Board, Planning and Zoning Commission, City Council and any other boards, commissions or council meetings as needed.
- Ensures the maintenance of permanent engineering records, updates of facility maps, and planning documents.
- Manage Tax Increment Reinvestment Zones (TIRZ) for public/private partnership funding and economic development.
- Provides administration and oversight of the Stormwater Utility Fund.
- Serve as Weatherford regional representative to NCTCOG to partner, implement and safeguard long term infrastructure needs.
- Advise City Manager and elected officials on all infrastructure matters of regional significance.
- Serves as primary contact to TxDOT on strategic planning initiatives, capital improvements, operations and local inter-agency coordination.
- Develops and maintains close contact and coordination with inter-local agencies, creating partnerships to leverage resources and knowledge.
- Lead various multi-disciplined teams of professionals to execute core City tasks and special projects as assigned by City Manager.
- Provide management direction in all hiring, training, and evaluations of personnel within each area of responsibility (department or division).
- Skillfully and tactfully address the general public and elected officials, both individually and in group settings, as well as among peers.
- Performs other duties as required or assigned.
Qualifications• Bachelor of Science Degree in Civil Engineering, Public Administration, Construction Management, or a closely related field. Professional Engineering (PE) license is strongly preferred. Ten (10) years related experience with public infrastructure design, development, and operations AND two (2) years responsible experience in a management position. The City will consider any combination of education, licensure, and relevant experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the essential functions of this position.
