Appointment Type Temporary.
This position will end on or before September 30, 2025. Permanent status cannot be earned in this grant-funded position. This Temporary appointment can be concluded prior to the stated temporary appointment end date, normally with a two-week notice period.

Work Schedule Monday-Friday, 8:00am-5:00pm
Anticipated Hiring Range $5,540.00 - $5,624.00 Per Month ($66,480.00 - $67,488 Annually)
Salary is commensurate with experience.
Position Summary Under the general supervision of the Director for the Basic Needs Office the Basic Needs Program Coordinator (BNPC) supports the development and implementation of SF State’s student basic needs programming aimed at addressing student food and housing insecurity. The BNPC is responsible for the planning, coordination, daily operations, and evaluation of these diverse student programs in collaboration with on- and off-campus partners. The BNPC will oversee the FSS request for services intake form and help navigate student referrals to the rest of the FSS team. This also includes working with the financial aid office to allocate homeless prevention funds and basic needs emergency funds to students needing this resource. The BNPC works collaboratively to further develop sustainable student programs that promotes dignity, minimizes marginalization, advances student success, and focuses on closing the educational equity gap for an ethnically and culturally diverse student population. The incumbent is responsible for marketing and outreach to increase visibility of student challenges and resources in a manner that promotes health equity, social justice, cultural humility, and diversity concepts. The BNPC also supervises student assistants, and/or advises student volunteers.
Position Information Student Basic Needs Programs - Intake Management
- Oversee incoming request for support from our FSS intake form, FSS email account, and student walk-ins. Serve as the point person to provide referrals to the FSS staff and on/off campus resources.
- Meet with students in-person, on the phone, or zoom to triage the student’s current crisis.
- Manage the workflow of our case management software.
Student Basic Needs Programs - Plan, Coordinate, Implement, & Evaluate
- Lead the coordination and daily implementation of student programs, including:
- Gator Grub Alert - SF State’s excess food push-notification system for students.
- Student emergency meal cards.
- Homeless prevention funds, basic needs emergency funds, and Hope Crisis Fund.
- Student hygiene supplies, parenting supplies, and snack program supplies.
- Collect and report student participant engagement data to inform program improvements.
- Recruit, train, supervise, and coordinate student interns and volunteers. Provide program information to faculty and staff.
Student Basic Needs Programs - Outreach
- Coordinate weekly visibility tabling and outreach to increase student program awareness and participation.
- Facilitate presentations and trainings for student organizations/groups, classes, departments, and colleges.
- Conduct regular outreach and awareness programs on CalFresh for the campus community.
- Coordinate large-scale events, activities, and campaigns for students in alignment with nationally recognized awareness days.
- Work collaboratively with the Health Communications Specialist to develop and disseminate marketing, outreach, and social media posts in support of student programs.
- Serve on related campus committees in order to bring forward basic needs challenges as part of student’s holistic health and success.

Minimum Qualifications Knowledge and Abilities: The following knowledge and abilities, as well as those listed at the lower levels in the Student Services Professional series, are required for appointment into this classification: thorough knowledge of the principles of individual and group behavior; general knowledge of the principles, practices and trends of the Student Services field, as well as general knowledge of the policies, procedures, and practices of the program area to which assigned; general knowledge of individual counseling techniques; general knowledge, or the ability to rapidly acquire such knowledge, of the organizational procedures and activities of the specific campus to which the position is assigned; working knowledge of student services programs outside the program to which immediately assigned; ability to analyze complex situations accurately and adopt effective courses of action; advise students individually and in groups on complex student-related matters; determine appropriate courses of action and proper techniques to utilize while engaged with individuals in personal interactions of an argumentative or sensitive nature; interpret and evaluate descriptions and explanations of problems brought forward by individuals or student organizations, analyze and define the problem, draw valid conclusions and project consequences of various alternative courses of action; carry out a variety of professionally complex assignments without detailed instructions; and establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with a variety of individuals.
Experience: Possession of these knowledge and abilities is typically demonstrated through the equivalent of three years of progressively responsible professional student services work experience. One year in the program area to which assigned may be preferred but is not required. A master’s degree in Counseling, Clinical Psychology, Social Work, or a directly related field may be substituted for one year of experience. A doctorate degree and the appropriate internship or clinical training in counseling or guidance may be substituted for the three years of experience for positions with a major responsibility for professional career or personal counseling.
Education: Equivalent to graduation from a four-year college or university in a related field, including or supplemented by upper division or graduate course work in counseling techniques, interviewing, and conflict resolution where such are job-related.
Preferred Qualifications - Master’s degree in Social Work, Counseling, Public Health, Student Affairs, or related field.
- Experience in a multicultural, urban setting.
- Demonstrated ability to use organizational skills to efficiently develop, implement, coordinate, and evaluate student-facing programs.
- Experience working with local community resources and developing partnerships that enhance student success.
- Demonstrated ability in managing difficult and complex situations involving under resources and high-need students.
- Demonstrated effectiveness in working with college age populations and providing student services to communities with a diverse population of individuals from a wide variety of countries of origin; with multi-racial, ethnic and cultural identities; multi-gender and lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, and questioning (LGBTQQ) identities; disabilities; and a myriad of beliefs.
- Demonstrated ability to develop a strong working knowledge of campus, local community and private health and welfare resources.
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with campus departments including the Office of Student Life, Campus Recreation, Student Health Services, Residential Life and Undergraduate Advising.
Environmental/Physical/Special Incumbent must be able to competently interact with a culturally and ethnically diverse population of students, faculty and staffs. Some evening and weekend hours may be required.
