SENIOR WELDER

LOCATION:

WASTEWATER MANAGEMENT DEPARTMENT, A.K. WARREN WATER RESOURCE FACILITY SECTION, MAINTENANCE GROUP, WARREN FACILITY, CARSON

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

To provide technical guidance to a group of welders performing welding repair and modification work and perform the more difficult work.

JOB SUMMARY:

Under general supervision from a Supervisor of Treatment Plant Maintenance and the technical leadership of a Lead Welder, the incumbent’s duties may include coordinating and instructing skilled and semi-skilled welders on a variety of oxyacetylene, electric arc and heliarc welding projects; specifying and reviewing work procedures; providing instruction or training to maintain efficiency and safety; inspecting the finished product for technical adequacy based on work specifications and instructions from supervisor; performing difficult welding, brazing, cutting and hardfacing in a shop and field setting to repair and modify metal components on a variety of equipment; welding and/or brazing all types of ferrous metals; creating, modifying and repairing welded installations requiring certification, inspection or testing; fabricating such items as machinery safety guards, rails, pipe stands, and piping systems; working from prints, sketches, and oral instructions; substituting for the Lead Welder during periods of absence; overseeing general shop cleaning; and performing related work as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Candidates must possess a valid California Class C driver's license for positions performing driving on the job, certification by the Department of Building and Safety of the City of Los Angeles to perform structural welding for some positions -AND- One year of experience in the County Sanitation Districts of Los Angeles County performing the duties of a Welder, -OR- Two years of experience as a journey level welder performing fabrication, modification, and repair work.

EXAMPLES OF ASSESSMENT CRITERIA

The competitive selection process may cover:

Knowledge of: Methods, equipment, tools, and safety devices used in oxyacetylene welding and cutting electric arc and heliarc welding; composition of various metals and alloys; occupational hazards and safety precautions of the trade; and techniques of employee motivation.

Ability to: Guide the work of others; operate welding and cutting equipment; read, interpret, and work from plans, drawings, and specifications.

RETIREMENT





COMPENSATION

Employees receive annual salary increases until reaching step 5 of the salary range and are provided with opportunities to promote. Cost of living adjustments are implemented annually in accordance with labor agreements.

13 paid holidays and one-half paid holiday depending on the employee's work schedule.

TUITION REIMBURSEMENT
Employees may be eligible for tuition reimbursement for approved accredited course work.

STUDENT LOAN PAYMENT REIMBURSEMENT
For some bargaining units, the Districts will provide student loan payment reimbursements for principal or interest paid by the employee on a qualified education loan incurred by the employee for the education of the employee. The annual maximum reimbursement is $5,250 and the lifetime reimbursement limit is $21,000.
