Building Inspector I:

Experience: At least one year of building construction or inspection experience is preferred.

Education: A high school diploma or equivalent is required. Preferred candidates will possess specialized training in building trades, code enforcement, or a related field.

Licenses & Certifications: A valid driver’s license and favorable driving record are required.

Salary: $23.75 - $31.79/hourly

Building Inspector II:

Experience: Three years of diversified building inspection or technical construction experience is required, with experience within a municipality preferred.

Education: A high school diploma or equivalent is required, along with specialized training in the building trades, code enforcement, or a related field.

Licenses & Certifications: A valid driver’s license and favorable driving record are required. Three of the five trades with International Code Council (ICC) certification are required: Commercial Building Inspector, Commercial Electrical Inspector, Commercial Mechanical Inspector, Commercial Plumbing Inspector, Commercial Building Plans Examiner, Commercial Electrical Plans Examiner, Commercial Mechanical Plans Examiner, Residential Building Inspector, Residential Electrical Inspector, Residential Mechanical Inspector, Residential Plumbing Inspector, and Accessibility Inspector/Plans Examiner.

Salary: $25.50 - $34.97/hourly

Building Inspector III

Experience: Three years of diversified building inspection or technical construction experience is required, with experience within a municipality highly preferred.

Education: A high school diploma or equivalent is required, along with specialized training in the building trades, code enforcement, or a related field.

Licenses & Certifications: A valid driver’s license and a favorable driving record are required. Candidates must possess International Code Council (ICC) certification as a Commercial Combination Inspector.

Salary: $28.00 - $39.06/hourly

The Building Inspector II performs technical building and life safety inspections of residential, commercial, and industrial construction projects to verify compliance with adopted codes, standards, and municipal ordinances for the Building Codes Division, while working with minimal supervision. They participate in the examination of plans and specifications of new building improvements and assist with the cross-training and development of co-workers. This position is part of a three-level career progression, including Building Inspector I, II, and III.
