Hours of work are 8:00 am - 4:30 pm, Sunday through Thursday, days off are Friday/Saturday. Required to work holidays and Saturdays on a rotating basis with other transcription staff on a prn basis .

Fulton State Hospital is seeking a transcriptionist for our Health Information Management Department (HIMD) to provide support to the psychiatric, medical, social services, and forensic staff in completing mandatory reports. The applicant should have good typing skills, a good vocabulary, above-average grammatical skills, and the ability to correctly structure and punctuate complete English sentences. They need above average computer skills involving keyboard operations and word processing applications. They should possess the ability and initiative to learn and accurately us e the programs for report transcription and adapt as these programs change and evolve. Individuals applying should have excellent listening capacity and the skill to interpret what is heard through an audio device, replaying the recording when necessary to get the exact wording and terminologies that the author has stated. Applicants must sit and concentrate for long periods of time as transcription is very detailed work.

The individual currently in the position specialized in medical transcription and the exacting medical terminology that implies. If not currently experienced in medical terminology, the individual must possess the initiative and aptitude to learn medical terms, with a general knowledge of major body systems and sense organs, and the ability to learn pharmaceutical names and Department of Mental Health terminology. Transcriptionists use many sources to verify basic demographic and factual information as required using available resources including CIMOR, META, laboratory results, prior reports, other available resources, and the internet. Finally, the applicant must communicate (verbally and non-verbally) with staff, physicians, patients, and the public in a courteous and professional manner.
