Minimum Qualifications
This position will be filled at one of the following levels depending upon candidate qualifications:
Graduate Engineer A Education and/or Equivalent Experience: - Graduation with a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in Engineering or in a field related to the job.
Licenses or Certifications:
Graduate Engineer B Education and/or Equivalent Experience: - Graduation with a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in Engineering or in a related field, plus two (2) years of experience in engineering.
Licenses or Certifications: - Engineer-In-Training ( EIT ) Certification in the State of Texas,
OR - If certified in another state, must have the ability to obtain Texas EIT certification within six (6) months of employment.
Engineer A Education and/or Equivalent Experience: - Graduation with a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in Engineering or in a field related to the job, plus four (4) years of engineering experience acquired before and/or after licensing as a professional engineer.
Licenses or Certifications: - Licensed Professional Engineer (P.E.) in the State of Texas; or if currently licensed in another state, must have the ability to obtain a Texas P.E. license within six (6) months of employment.
Engineer B
Education and/or Equivalent Experience: - Graduation with a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in a field related to engineering, plus six (6) years of experience in engineering acquired before and/or after licensing as a professional engineer.
Licenses and Certifications Required: - Licensed Professional Engineer (P.E.) in the State of Texas; or if currently licensed in another state, must have the ability to obtain a Texas P.E. license within six (6) months of employment.

The Austin Transportation Department’s Active Transportation and Street Design Division within the City of Austin has an opening for a full-time multimodal street designer. The Division focuses on the planning, design and implementation of multimodal transportation facilities. This position will assist in the design and delivery of multimodal street design projects as well as the design review of local, regional, and private development projects, all of which contribute to a better connected, safer and more comfortable multimodal transportation networks.

Pay Scales:Graduate Engineer A: $33.49 - $42.71
Graduate Engineer B: $35.50 - $45.27
Engineer A: $39.49 - $ 51.34
Engineer B: $42.26 - $54.94
The Engineer A, B or Graduate Engineer A, B will perform the following specific duties for a diverse array of projects:
o Multimodal street design
o Network analysis and feasibility studies
o Development review, plan review and peer review
o Managing public processes
o Data collection and field work
o Project implementation oversight & review of layout quality in the field
Travel:If you are selected for this position and meet the
Driver Safety Standards in the City of Austin
Driver Safety Program, you may drive when necessary to multiple locations as part of your regular job duties. Otherwise, you are responsible for getting to and from these locations.

Preferred Qualifications - Experience and interest in the design of bicycle, pedestrian, and transit facilities and more generally, fully multimodal transportation infrastructure that achieve complete streets policy goals.
- An understanding of Austin’s existing and emerging bicycle, pedestrian, transit networks.
- Familiarity with the state of the practice including the NACTO Transit Street Design Guide, NACTO Urban Street Design Guide, NACTO Urban Bikeway Design Guide, the AASHTO Guide for the Development of Bicycle Facilities, AASHTO Guide for the Planning, Design, and Operation of Pedestrian Facilities, the Texas MUTCD and relevant City of Austin plans and policies such as the Austin Strategic Mobility Plan and the City of Austin Bicycle Plan.
- Excellent team working, problem-solving skills and communication skills, both written and verbal
