The Legal Office Assistant is a critical member of the District Attorney team and supports our mission by:
- Providing direct professional customer service in the reception area. Screening visitors and calls; taking messages; providing information regarding activities and functions; processing mail and deliveries
- Receiving and entering law enforcement reports and referrals into a case management system
- Working with digital evidence to provide discovery to the defense counsel
- Collaborating with the Probation Department to ensure accurate information exchange for pre-trial services and court reports
- Managing documents relating to prosecution
- Assisting with witness coordination during court trials and the general public with information requests

Knowledge and Skills RequiredKnowledge of:
- Legal terminology, practices, and procedures and practices involved in composing, processing, and filing a variety of legal forms and documents
- Basic office practices and procedures, including filing and the operation of standard office equipment
- Correct English usage, including spelling, grammar, and punctuation
- Business letter writing and report preparation
- Pertinent Federal, State, and local laws, codes, and regulations, including laws and regulations affecting the preparation and serving of civil notices, as required
- Policies, procedures, processes, and forms related to the department to which assigned
Skill in:
- Understanding and carrying out oral and written instructions
- Operating standard office equipment including computers
- Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of the work
- Understanding, interpreting, and relating laws, rules, regulations, and policies of the assigned department
- Making arithmetical calculations with speed and accuracy
- Operating standard office equipment including a word processor and centralized telephone equipment
- Prioritizing work and coordinating several activities simultaneously
- Preparing and processing a variety of legal forms and documents
Education and Experience RequiredLevel I : Graduation from high school or possession of a GED certificate and two years of responsible clerical and staff support experience. LOAs assigned to some offices must complete a POST law enforcement clerk course and/or CLETS within one year of hire.
Level II (in addition to the above): Two years of experience in legal support assignments equivalent to the County's Legal Office Assistant I and for LOAs assigned to some offices, completion of a POST law enforcement clerk course and/or CLETS training.
