Water Production Plant Operator
Description
Job Summary Operates and maintains a City of Bryan water plant to ensure the effective processing of potable water in sufficient quantities for domestic, residential, and commercial use and compliance with all Texas Commission Environmental Quality ( TCEQ ) rules and regulations related to a public water system. Essential Job Functions
Regulates the flow of potable water through the production facilities and maintain water level in reservoirs and elevated towers to meet the system demands.
Assists in the collection of all necessary water samples and performs standardized tests to monitor and control water quality.
Adjusts dosages of treatment chemicals used for disinfection and corrosion control. This includes handling of hazardous chemicals for water treatment as required, including, but not limited to, chlorine and sodium hypochlorite.
Monitors SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition) system to determine and adjust plant flows, equipment status, water tower levels, etc.
Completes plant logs and regulatory reports to determine and record plant conditions and ensure compliance with TCEQ rules, regulations, and permit requirements.
Operates and maintains various pumps, valves, motors, water wells, and other plant equipment and machinery.
Maintains and monitors storage tanks.
Keeps plant equipment in operable condition; ensures equipment has proper preventative maintenance and inspections.
Performs routine building and grounds maintenance.
Completes on-the-job training, education, and certification-related assignments.
Performs related duties as required.
Responds regularly and promptly to work.
Minimum Qualifications Required:
High School Diploma or GED .
At least three (3) years of work experience in a plant environment, preferably in a water utility plant OR work experience performing maintenance and mechanical repairs to facilities, equipment, and/or machinery.
Preferred:
Water experience and/or related certification.
Experience with SCADA systems and/or computer proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, and Outlook.
Equivalent combinations of related education, experience, certification, and training may also be considered.
Licenses, Certifications & Special Requirements
Texas Class C driver’s license with a good driving record as measured by the City’s evaluation system.
Must possess a Class D Water Certification (Ground or Surface) as issued by TCEQ and possess the ability to obtain a Class C Water Certification within 6 months of hire.
Must successfully pass an annual pulmonary function test and respirator fit test to determine ability to function while wearing a self-contained breathing apparatus ( SCBA ) during emergency operations.
