Job DescriptionTraining Support Technician I 2 positions to be filled Temporary/Casual Position College Station, Texas $20.59/hour The Training Support Technician I, aids the Industrial Program and various training programs relating to emergency service departments on the Brayton Fire Field. Includes direct student contact, conducting preventative maintenance, and minor to major repairs to training props in assigned area. Acts as a safety evaluator during hands-on live fire training scenarios. Recognizes health risks, proper PPE, and analyzes risk. Responsible for tracking all consumable use during all Industrial Program training deliveries, completing required consumable reports, and delivering those reports to the responsible parties prior to set deadlines.
This position reports to the Training Support Foreman II.
Required Qualifications: - High School diploma or GED.
- One year of maintenance or construction repair related experience.
Required Licenses/Certifications: - Must have a valid motor vehicle operator’s license or ability to obtain within 30 days of employment.
- Must be able to obtain and hold CPR/First Aid/AED certification.
- Must be able to obtain and hold an Online Skills Evaluation certification.
- Must be able to obtain NFPA 470 Online Awareness and Operations.
- Must be able to obtain NFPA 1081 Exterior w/ ProBoard certification.
- Must be able to obtain NFPA 1081 Interior w/ ProBoard certification.
Preferred Qualifications:- Certificate from an accredited trade/technical school.
- Industrial related experience or emergency services experience in firefighting, rescue, hazardous materials, safety, or industrial setting or military experience.
- Two years of maintenance or construction repair related experience.
Physical Requirements:- Ability to work outdoors exposed to various weather conditions, potential allergens, elevated noise levels, and extreme heat.
- Ability to wear full bunker gear and SCBA for multiple live fire training scenarios.
- Physical conditioning consistent with setting up classrooms, movement and/or lifting of light, moderate, and/or heavy training, and project equipment.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: - Working knowledge of mechanical maintenance, repairs, and mechanical operations.
- Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others.
- Ability to communicate clearly and effectively to ensure understanding.
- Knowledge of training safety guidelines and equipment maintenance to include bunker gear inspections, prop inspections, mule inspections, fuel farm inspections, and equipment inspections.
- Ability to follow instructions and detailed protocol.
- Knowledge in welding, pipefitting, carpentry work, electrical, operate hand and power tools.
- General knowledge of all tools and equipment to include dealing with welding, pipefitting, electrical, and general hand and power tools.
- Ability to make split second decisions in response to hazards for yourself and others to prevent injury or destruction of equipment.
Equipment: - Standard office equipment: Computer, keyboard, multifunctional printer, telephone.
- Training/Field equipment.
- Heavy equipment operation: Forklift, Material Handler, Man-lift, Backhoe, etc.

- This position may require work beyond normal office hours and/or work on weekends.
- This position requires compliance with state and federal laws/codes and Texas A&M University System/TEEX regulations and procedures.
- All tasks and job responsibilities must be performed safely without injury to self or others in compliance with System and Agency safety requirements.
- Ability to travel independently to other and/or remote locations by driving a personal or TEEX vehicle and/or flying on commercial airlines.
- Normal work hours are 7:00 to 4:00 p.m. May be required to work a flex schedule to accommodate class schedules, to include nights, weekends, and holidays. With the potential of having short notice.
- This position is required to comply with OSHA/ NFPA standards, Emergency Services Training Institute (ESTI) guidelines related to the proper wearing of respirators and (ESTI) facial hair policy for wearing Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) when needed.
Essential Duties, Tasks, and Percentages: Training Support Activities - 50%- Demonstrates proper use of project/equipment to students under the supervision of the course instructor.
- Delivers fuel through a valve station to projects and records consumables used during training evolutions.
- Ensures consumables and equipment needed for training evolutions are in place and in good working condition and appropriate consumable stores and equipment are available for use.
- Serves as safety observer during training exercises.
- Demonstrates and evaluates skills for training certifications.
- Prepares projects for training by delivering and placing training equipment, setting up classrooms and lunch areas.
- Assists any other training programs with training completion as necessary.
- Completes documentation associated with all Inspections and Logs associated with Fire Field Operations (i.e.: Mule, Prop, Bunker Gear, Fuel Farm, Project Safety Analysis, Auxiliary Fire Water Pumps, etc.).
Training Projects/Equipment Maintenance and Restoration -
25%- Performs minor repairs of props and equipment and completes major repairs under supervision of Foreman/Training Support Technician III.
- Assists with safety inspections and securing of equipment in designated storage areas.
- Assists with specialized and/or more comprehensive repair restoration projects.
Safety Evaluation - 20%- Acts as a safety observer during training activities.
- Tracks and records consumables used during each training activity.
- Serves as a safety evaluator during hands-on live fire training scenarios.
- Recognizes health risks, proper PPE, and analyzes risk.
Instructor Assistance - 5%- Assists with the instruction and testing of students and course participants.
- Submits required reports on time.
- Assists with the execution of training scenarios following established standard operating guidelines.
- Issues proper protective equipment/clothing for students as needed.
Other Duties:- Positively interacts with students, vendors, customers, and staff.
- Performs first aid and reports all injuries/accidents.
- Attends scheduled safety meetings.
- Performs additional work duties as assigned.
