Job Description Maintenance Training Support Technician I Full-Time 2 Positions College Station, TX $21.59/hour The Maintenance Technician I (
2nd Shift, 2:30 pm - 11:00 pm) , under supervision, performs preventative maintenance and basic repair of Emergency Services Training Institute (ESTI) fire field training props. Responsible for performing minor building maintenance and repair requests. May also support other programs based on business needs.
This position reports to the Maintenance Foreman.
Required Qualifications: - High School Diploma or GED.
- One year of maintenance experience.
Required Licenses/Certifications: - Must have a valid motor vehicle operator’s license or ability to obtain within 30 days of employment.
- Completes listed out-sourced training as available to include (within 6 months):
- ESTI Safety Orientation, Skid Steer Loader, Forklift, Material Handler, Man Lift, Iron Worker, Riding Mowers, and Mule.
- Obtains listed certifications as available to include (within 18 months):
- 24-hour welding.
- LPG Installation.
- DOT Cylinder Filling.
Preferred Qualifications: - Certificate from an accredited trade school.
- Two or more years maintenance repair, building trades, or construction experience.
- Ability to interpret shop drawings, sketches, and operations/maintenance manuals.
- Class B CDL - with passenger endorsement.
Physical Requirements:- Ability to work outdoors exposed to various weather conditions, potential allergens, elevated noise levels, and heat.
- Physical conditioning consistent with movement of heavy maintenance materials, training equipment, performing maintenance activities and/or construction activities to include standing, walking, sitting, climbing ladders or scaffolding, bending/stooping, kneeling/squatting, reaching, talking, hearing, carrying, lifting, pushing/pulling maintenance tools and/or equipment.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: - Ability to effectively communicate.
- Proficient computer skills to operate a PC with Microsoft Office and a CMMS Work Order system.
- Ability to interact with direct reports, students, vendors, customers, staff, and management positively and effectively.
- Demonstrated safety awareness and safe working habits/practices.
Equipment: - Standard office equipment: computer, keyboard, multifunctional printer, telephone.
- Skid steel loader, forklift, material handler, man lift, iron worker, backhoe.
- Riding mowers, side-by-side ATV’s, golf carts and various types of vehicles.
- Personal protective equipment.
- Training equipment.

- This position may require work beyond normal office hours and/or work on weekends.
- This position requires compliance with state and federal laws/codes and Texas A&M University System/TEEX regulations and procedures.
- All tasks and job responsibilities must be performed safely without injury to self or others in compliance with System and Agency safety requirements.
- As part of TEEX’s mission of providing training, developing practical solutions, and saving lives; this position could be required, if called upon, to deploy within the State of Texas as directed by this position’s Division Director/HQ Department Head.
- Ability to travel independently to other and/or remote locations by driving a personal or TEEX vehicle and/or flying on commercial airlines.
- This position requires compliance with OSHA/NFPA standards, ESTI Respirator Protection Program related to the proper wearing of respirator. Beards, sideburns, or mustaches must not exceed 2” in length for PPE equipment. Shaving of the entire sealing surface area of your face will be required to allow for annual respirator fit testing as well as immediately upon being given assignment of a task requiring use of a respirator. The requirement to shave cannot be discharged and to request the task be assigned to a coworker or subordinate. Refusal to shave immediately upon the assignment of a task that requires the use of a respirator will result in immediate disciplinary actions up to and including termination if deemed appropriate.
- This position works 2nd shift, Monday-Friday, 2:30 pm - 11:00 pm and may require work beyond normal work hours, but not limited to a flex-work schedule in order to accommodate training classes, meetings, and/or training schedules.
Essential Duties, Tasks, and Percentages: ESTI Fire Field Grounds/Buildings/Training Projects Maintenance - 70%- Performs minor welding, fabrication, prefabrication and of pipes, beams, grating, handrails on existing training projects utilizing mig and stick welding.
- Replaces minor damaged project steel supply piping, fittings, and valves project valves.
- Performs minor repairs to project valves, solenoids, repack valve stems, gasket materials etc.
- Replaces damaged ceiling tile, light bulbs, ballasts, and worn switches, receptacles on projects classrooms, project shelters and storage areas.
- Paints interior / exterior items to include piping systems, handrails, fuel tanks, project shelters, classroom / office walls, parking stops/bollards, awnings, etc. to include all required surface preparation such as sanding, sandblasting, priming and sheetrock repair.
- Cleans up training grounds by picking up trash and picking up damaged fire hose.
- Repairs equipment in accordance with manufacturer's guidelines.
- Assists with semiannual clean out of projects.
Training Projects Construction -20%- Installs steel and PVC supply/drain piping for projects.
- Installs steel and PVC conduit for electrical / air service to projects.
- Installs electrical switches, lighting, fans, and receptacles at projects.
- Builds concrete forms, rebar / mesh installation, pour and finish concrete.
- Builds wooden benches / shelves / racks, framing and installing doors.
- Performs minor renovations to classrooms, storage and office areas as required.
Class Support - 5%- Assists with the preparation, set up and cleanup of facilities, projects and classroom for scheduled classes.
- Prepares projects and classrooms for training by delivering and placing training equipment.
- Sets up classrooms and lunch areas as required for scheduled classes or meetings.
- Assists with the restoration of training projects by securing the equipment in designated storage areas.
- Assists other programs as needed.
Divisional and Program Support - 5%- Purchases supplies / equipment / materials in accordance with TAMUS / TEEX / ESTI regulations.
- Provides all required purchasing receiving documentation.
- Makes supplies / material runs to local vendors.
- Attends weekly scheduled safety meetings.
- Completes performance surveys as needed and participates in professional development opportunities.
- Maintains obtained certifications/licenses for the duration of employment to include completion of required continuing education.
- Assists with oversight of grounds crews and maintenance crews as assigned.
- Assists with personnel and administrative tasks as assigned.
- Assists with work order QA/QC as requested.
- May be required to facilitate and/or attend meetings as requested.
Other Duties: - Performs additional work duties as assigned.
