THE POSITION

The Drainage Collection division’s Utilities Operations and Maintenance Supervisor is tasked with overseeing and coordinating the personnel responsible for maintaining the City's drainage collection systems and Underground Service Alert (USA) program throughout Sacramento. This position works with a variety of elements including pipes, inlets, levees, canals, streams, and basins that make up the City's drainage infrastructure as well as utility locating for (811) USA. Managing the team and its equipment dedicated to these items are critical to our mission of maintaining drainage runoff, water quality, rain patrol to mitigate flooding, and accurately locating utilities and marking the critical underground infrastructure for the City.

IDEAL CANDIDATE STATEMENT

The ideal candidate for this role should be well-versed in the collection system, waterways, levees and assets that make up the Flood Control Systems for the City of Sacramento. Additionally, the candidate should require minimal guidance and should understand regulatory requirements and their impact on scheduling and execution throughout the year, including compliance with Department of Fish and Wildlife requirements, water quality standards, and specifications for repair, installation, and maintenance of the underground collection system. The candidate should be able to adapt to changing priorities or projects assigned, feel comfortable working with others in a team environment, and be able to make difficult or unpopular decisions at times.

To layout, assign, and supervise the work of crews on the construction, maintenance, and repair of water distribution, wastewater collection, and storm drainage systems.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED
General supervision is provided by a higher level position. Responsibilities include the direct and indirect supervision of water, wastewater, and drainage field operations personnel.

Any combination of education and experience that would provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:

Education:
High School Diploma or G.E.D. equivalent.
- And -
Three years of experience as a Utilities Operations and Maintenance Leadworker in the City of Sacramento, which must include two years in the specialized area (water, wastewater, or drainage).

OR
Six years of experience performing the duties of a supervisor or lead worker in underground installation, construction, and/or repair of water distribution, sewer, or drainage collection systems.

PROOF OF EDUCATION
Should education be used to qualify for this position, then proof of education such as, but not limited to, university/college transcripts and degrees should be submitted with your application and will be required at the time of appointment. Unofficial documents and/or copies are acceptable.

An applicant with a college degree obtained outside the United States must have education records evaluated by a credentials evaluation service. Evaluation of education records will be due at time of appointment.

Respiratory Protective Equipment :
Work in this class requires wearing respiratory protective equipment at times. When assigned to such work, facial hair must be shaven when it interferes with the safe fitting of respiratory protective equipment.

Residency Requirement :
Employees in this classification must reside within thirty-five (35) air miles from the freeway interchange at W-X Streets, 29th-30th Streets within one year following appointment.

PROBATIONARY PERIOD
Employees must complete twelve (12) months of probation at a satisfactory performance level prior to gaining permanent status.

4. Screening Committee: (Pass/Fail)- All candidates that pass the examination and are in one of the top three ranks will have their application forwarded to the hiring department for review. The hiring department will select the most competitive applications for further consideration. 5. Conditional Hire : Upon receipt of a conditional offer, the selected candidate must complete and pass Live Scan / fingerprinting; review by Human Resources, a pre-employment medical exam, controlled substance and / or alcohol test, and possess any required licensure or certification prior to receiving a start date from the Department. Failure to meet these prerequisites will be grounds for withdrawal of your conditional offer of employment.
