LIBRARY DEPARTMENT The Cameron Park Library is situated adjacent to the Cameron Park Community Service District building, and next to Blue Oak Elementary School and Camerado Middle School. At certain times of day the library is bustling with families and with middle-schoolers. The Senior Library Assistant is a vital member of both the Cameron Park Library and our Community Hub team. Community Hubs are collaborative efforts located within our Library branches and staffed by a team specializing in family engagement, early literacy, and community health that are focused on children, families, and individuals across the lifespan.
Typical activities candidates may be asked to perform in working at the Cameron Park Library include:
- Develop high energy early literacy programming such as story times and implement already-developed programs such as Mother Goose on the Loose
- Research and order essential items for programming, including books and early literacy educational materials
- Attend collaborative meetings with partner agencies and organizations
- Maintain program participant and client records
- Participate in outreach events such as Kids Expo, pop-up events, El Dorado County Fair, etc.
- Assist with school field trips
- Assist patrons with library functions such as registering for a library card, checking in/out materials, placing holds, locating requested materials, answering basic reference and informational questions, etc.
- Monitor kid's areas of the library and interact with families in order to build community trust and engage families
THE OPPORTUNITY Lead, train and perform the more complex and difficult specialized library administrative support, paraprofessional library and customer service duties; provide lead direction and training to assigned staff; provide circulation services at a branch library; uses and updates computer databases; provide basic reference service to patrons; conducts children's programs.
The selected candidate will have the opportunity to: - Provide lead direction, training, work review, and evaluation to support staff performing paraprofessional library duties; sets priorities and follows up to ensure coordination and completion of assigned work; instruct staff in work procedures.
- Locate materials for patrons, verifies bibliographic information, and obtains material from the County system.
- Perform collection management, including the selection, ordering, and maintenance of the library's e-book and audiobook library collection.
- Perform lead oversight of staff performing processing of new items entered into the Library system to ensure proper labeling.
- Conduct circulation activities, including checking library materials in and out, registering and issuing cards, calculating and collecting fines and fees, and explaining county library circulation policies and procedures.
- Respond to patron requests for information and materials, and provides reference information; refer questions of a more technical or detailed reference nature to appropriate staff members and locations.
- Assist patrons with computer-related questions, including logging onto e-mail, Wi-Fi, and job sites; perform basic troubleshooting on various tablets, smartphones, and e-readers.
- Provide computer support, runs reports, operates and maintains department databases, and provides basic maintenance of equipment.
- Provide input into collection development decisions.
- Review and categorize donated items to determine if they should be added to the library's collection or listed for sale or further donation.
- Maintain records and files related to library service activities and projects.
- Perform branch banking duties, including recording and reconciling daily cash and preparing deposits.
- Conduct Children's Storytime and other programs; gives instructional tours.
- Perform standard office support work such as answering telephones, maintaining files, and operating computer terminals and standard office equipment.
- As a lead worker within a large branch, or when assigned oversight to a small branch library, provide work direction, training, and review to library support staff and volunteers; plan, schedule, and assign support and volunteer work to maintain desired service levels during library hours; and provides input into performance evaluations.
- When assigned to a small branch library, is responsible for the security and maintenance of the facility.
- Assist with special projects developed to foster community engagement and awareness of Library programs and services.

Human Resources will assess your application to determine if you are minimally qualified using the following minimum qualifications. Any combination of the required experience, education, and training that would provide the essential knowledge, skills, and abilities is qualifying.
Equivalent to graduation from high school, supplemented by college-level coursework in liberal arts, or a related field and two (2) year of paraprofessional library experience providing library services at a level equivalent to the County's class of Library Assistant II.
Licenses and Certifications: - Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid California Driver's License by time of appointment and a satisfactory driving record.

This recruitment will establish a list for the purpose of filling current and future full time, part time, limited term and extra help vacancies for at least three (3) months. In accordance with Personnel Rules 1103.1 and 1105.1, an extra help or limited term employee may be transitioned into a regular employee if the department in which the employee works has a vacant allocated position for the same classification as held by the extra help or limited term employee and the appointing authority requests such transfer.
