The
Department of Public Health is recruiting for
Public Health Dental Assistant II who provide technical assistance to dental professionals in the treatment of patients. Duties include maintaining and updating dental records, supplies, and equipment; assist the dentist at chair side; take and develop dental x-rays for diagnostic purposes; instruct patients in proper practices of dental hygiene and prophylaxis; sterilize, care for and arrange dental instruments, equipment, and accessories and make appointments for patients.
These positions will be expected to travel and work in all three Federally Qualified Health Centers located in San Bernardino, Ontario, and Hesperia. Official Title: Dental Assistant II

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT - Dental Assistant Registration: Incumbents must possess and maintain a valid license as a Registered Dental Assistant in Extended Functions
- Basic Life Support Certification: Incumbents must possess and maintain a current Basic Life Support certification.
- Pre-Employment Process: Incumbents selected for these positions must pass a background check which includes verification of employment history and education as well as a physical exam and drug screening.
- Physical Conditions: Must be able to balance, bend, climb, crawl, knee, sit, squat, stand, stoop, turn, twist and, walk long distances both indoors and outdoors in various weather conditions; hand and finger dexterity in both hands; ability to manipulate heavy duty security locks and doors; reaching or working above and below shoulder level; normal vision, including color discrimination; normal hearing; and carrying up to 10 pounds.
- Travel: Travel throughout the County will be required as the incumbent will be expected to travel and work in all three health center locations in San Bernardino, Ontario, and Hesperia. At the time of hire, a valid California Class C driver license and proof of automobile liability insurance must be produced and maintained for the individual providing the transportation.
Minimum RequirementsLicense*: Possession of a current license as a
Registered Dental Assistant in Extended Functions (RDAEF) issued by the State of California Board of Dental Examiners.
-AND-Certifications: Possession of a RDAEF license which includes coronal polishing certification AND current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
-AND-Experience: One (1) year of experience (full-time equivalent) performing clinical dental assistant duties which includes oral health education, charting of decayed, missing and/or filled teeth, and instructing patients on proper oral hygiene and proper nutritional habits.

- Current license as a Registered Dental Assistant by the State of California Board of Dental Examiners.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
Desired QualificationsThe ideal candidate will possess three (3) or more years of experience as a licensed Dental Assistant and computer experience with the following applications:
1) Microsoft Outlook
2) Microsoft Word
3) Microsoft Excel
4) Microsoft Access
5) Microsoft Access.
Experience with internet/intranet usage and an Electronic Health Record (EHR) system (e.g. Dentrix; EPIC ) is highly desirable.
