As a Jail Maintenance Worker, you'll do more than just janitorial work. You'll be a mentor to inmate workers, leading them in various janitorial tasks that revolve around the upkeep, preservation, and sanitation of buildings and associated facilities. Your role will be multi-faceted, involving a range of semi-skilled and skilled activities such as painting, carpentry, mechanics, and electrical maintenance. Be the driving force behind the modification, restoration, and general upkeep of equipment, structures, and grounds at the Sheriff's Office.

Essential Functions- Exercises direct supervision over inmate labor force.
- Works in janitorial and building maintenance area in a confidential law enforcement and jail setting.
- Sweeps, mops, waxes, buffs, and polishes floors; vacuums and shampoos carpets; empties and cleans waste receptacles.
- Cleans bathrooms and related facilities; maintains supplies in restrooms.
- Washes windows and walls.
- Maintains proper standards of cleanliness in assigned areas.
- Moves and arranges furniture and equipment; sets up rooms for special meetings or events.
- Works in a confined, secured detention environment; works in direct contact with inmates.
- Independently perform routine semi-skilled maintenance procedures such as replacing lighting, painting, preventive maintenance, etc. as required or as defined by a scheduled maintenance plan.
- Under direct supervision, assists with skilled work involving plumbing, carpentry, mechanical, and electrical maintenance tasks.
- Directs inmate labor when assisting with maintenance tasks.
- Operates and maintains equipment used in the performance of assigned tasks; operates a wide variety of hand and power tools and equipment.
- Makes a variety of structural, mechanical, and general repairs.
- Repairs plumbing systems and a variety of plumbing fixtures, such as faucets, sinks, and toilets.
- Follows safety measures applicable to any crafts or trades, as well as general Sheriff's Office or Jail safety precautions and practices; follows appropriate safety measures when handling cleaning or maintenance supplies, tools, or equipment.
- Assists with inventory of clothing, hygiene, chemicals, and cleaning supplies; receives and picks up supplies.
- Prepares reports or other documentation required as a part of assigned duties; completes and maintains records, logs, and reports.
- Performs or supervises performance of various landscape and outside maintenance duties.
- May be required to work shifts and carry a pager for on-call schedules.
Nonessential Functions- When a local declaration of emergency or disaster is declared by the Board of Commissioners, all Larimer County employees may be required to work as a Disaster Service Worker.
- Performs other duties as appropriate or necessary for performance of the job.
Qualifications- Must be at least 18 years of age.
- One (1) year of experience in a directly related field or in the performance of similar duties and responsibilities, including tasks in trade or building maintenance work such as mechanical, electrical, carpentry, or plumbing, required.
- Possession of a valid Driver's License by date of hire required.
- Possession of First Aid and CPR certificates by date of hire required.
