Description
Since 1972, the Missouri Division of Fire Safety / Office of the State Fire Marshal has been the State of Missouri’s premier regulatory oversight and enforcement agency for Fire Investigations, Fire Inspections, Elevator and Amusement Ride Safety, Boiler and Pressure Vessel Safety, and Firefighter Training and Certification. The Division provides services to over 25,000 firefighters in Missouri, as well as to the 6.1 million residents and over 40 million visitors to the state, each year.

The Division of Fire Safety is looking for a person who share these values to be a member of our Fire Investigations and Explosive Enforcement team. As a member of the Fire Investigations Unit, you would be an integral part of a team responsible for the investigation of fires and explosions as they relate to accidents or crimes of arson, as well as injuries, and fatalities. Additionally, the registration of blasting companies, licensing of individual blasters, and the investigation of blasting complaints.

Job Description: - This is technical administrative work involving a variety of business management and support service functions.
- You will be responsible for:
- Review incident reports from field staff and make corrections as needed.
- Prepare oral and written communication to be presented to federal, state, and local fire and law enforcement personnel.
- Keep logs on all fire, explosion, and fireworks investigations.
- Prepare reports and documents in accordance with Missouri Sunshine Law.
- Provide necessary security and confidentiality on all reports.
- Be prepared to testify in court on necessary facts relating to their job functions and investigation unit activities.
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with public and private stakeholders.
- Other duties as assigned.
NOTE: This position will have access to, and regular viewing, of written reports, criminal records, photographs, and other documentation of graphic and sensitive nature. Examples include written descriptions, photographs, diagrams, and/or drawings of fire-related injuries to living and fatality victims
Qualifications -
- Graduate of an accredited four-year high school, or in lieu thereof, shall have obtained a certificate of equivalency from the State Department of Elementary and Secondary Education.
- One year of relevant clerical experience.
Lack of post-secondary education will not be used as the sole basis denying consideration to any applicant.Additional Qualifications and Requirements - Well versed in using Microsoft Word.
- Working Knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Access.
- Ability to operate standard office equipment (copy, fax, scan, etc.) and maintain complex records systems.
- Be able to interpret and apply policies and procedures of DFS.
- Must be able to pass extensive background investigations and be able to obtain needed security clearance to operate within the Missouri Uniform Law Enforcement System (MULES) and Omnigo (DFS Record Management System).
