Job Summary Under the general supervision of the Assistant AD for Finance, the Athletics Business Analyst (ABA) is responsible for administering the financial activities of the assigned teams and/or administrative departments within the SJSU Intercollegiate Athletics program. The ABA is responsible for making purchasing decisions for assigned teams and/or departments with combined annual budgets from multiple sources, such as SSETF, Misc. Trust, camp funds and tower foundation accounts or any other athletic-related funding sources. The ABA works closely with coaches and/or managers within each assigned team and/or department to plan, execute and analyze annual operational and travel budgets from various sources. In addition, the ABA ensures the most timely and cost-effective travel and operating purchases are made for the designated areas.
Key Responsibilities - Track and verify the accuracy of expenses, identify errors and work with the appropriate area (e.g. Procurement and Accounting) to resolve and correct erroneous charges by preparing expenditure transfers. Ensure travel purchase orders are within established amounts; adjust purchase order values as needed to align with actual expenses.
- Project annual team travel budgets, review actual monthly expenses against projections and update projections.
- Analyze and evaluate various funding sources (Tower funds). Work with Director to determine the best funding sources for meeting operational needs based on available and budgeted resources as well as appropriate use of funds considering Tower policy and procedure as well as NCAA regulations.
- Process and track incoming deposits (checks/ACH transfers) using Transact for game guarantees, ticket sales, camps, royalties, sponsorships and other incoming revenue for division.
- Stay current with overall division budget to analyze current policies and practices for division internal control.
- Provide division-wide training and support for new hire onboarding that relates to procurement processing and guidelines.
- Ensure designated teams/departments comply with established campus, CSU, and NCAA policies and procedures for competition, training and recruiting related travel requirements.
- Assist with all division-level, NCAA, and conference data collection needed for execution of annual mandated reporting requests and audits.
- Create and develop ad hoc reports as requested.

- Working knowledge of budget policies and procedures
- Demonstrated ability to effectively interpret, organize, and present information and ideas in written or presentation form
- Ability to organize and plan work and projects including handling multiple priorities
- Ability to make independent decisions and exercise sound judgment
- Ability to analyze data and make accurate projections using business mathematics and basic statistical techniques
- Ability to train others on new skills and procedures and provide work lead direction
- Ability to be available on-call after regular business hours, weekends, and/or holidays
Required Qualifications - Bachelor's degree and/or equivalent training
- Two years of administrative work experience involving study, analysis, and/or evaluation leading to the development or improvement of administrative policies, procedures, practices, or programs
Preferred Qualifications - Bachelor's degree in business or public administration from an accredited 4-year college or university
- One or more years of experience preparing and/or administering budget projections and reconciling program revenues and expenses at a college or university
- Demonstrated understanding of NCAA policies and practices related to the financial administration of Division I Intercollegiate Athletics programs
- One or more years’ experience working in intercollegiate athletics at a four-year college or university
- Demonstrated understanding of the special situations and requirements that often arise in an Intercollegiate Athletics program and the ability to respond with the appropriate sense of urgency
- One or more years’ experience using Common Financial System (CFS), Financial Transaction Services (FTS) and Financial Data Warehouse)
Compensation Classification: Administrative Analyst/Specialist - Exempt I
Anticipated Hiring Range: $5,000/month - $5,431/month
CSU Salary Range: $4,379/month - $7,922/month
