A Sr. Human Services Specialist job is available with the City of Fort Worth (Neighborhood Services Department / Neighborhood Development and Revitalization Division.
We are currently seeking a social services professional who has experience working with diverse and vulnerable low-income populations and/or persons with disabilities. Excellent written and verbal communications skills are required; experience with housing programs and knowledge of federal grant regulatory requirements are also a plus. Ability to demonstrate a non-judgmental attitude toward clients and maintain confidentiality is essential.
Minimum Qualifications: - Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college in Sociology, Social Work, Psychology, Health Administration, Business Administration or a related field
- Four years of experience in a social services program setting or closely related field
- Must pass Drug Screen
Preferred Qualifications: - Preference may be given to higher levels of education, experience and certifications as related to the position
- Possession of a BSW, LMSW, LPC, and LCDC and additional social service experience is not required, but is highly preferred
- Cultural and ethnic sensitivity, and ability to adapt quickly to change;
- Knowledge of grief, bereavement, family systems, and addiction processes and behavior;
- Knowledge of health and medical issues related to the treatment of HIV/AIDS;
- Knowledge of gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender issues;
- Ability to discuss sexuality issues in an appropriate manner with clients.
The Sr. Human Services Specialist job responsibilities include: - Meet with clients to obtain required information, verify eligibility, and develop housing plans; conduct re-certifications of eligibility as needed; Document service delivery and maintain client records and confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA policies and procedures
- Conduct home visits to respond to client needs and to perform inspections that confirm quality of housing condition and a safe environment
- Assist clients in completing financial assistance applications; and provide referrals to appropriate social and support services to promote self-sufficiency
- Prepare and maintain reports and statistics on client service levels
- Coordinate with departmental financial staff for housing assistance payments and related pay requests and to monitor and manage program budget status; Track client approvals, denials, monthly and annual amounts of assistance on a routine basis
- Develop and maintain a complete understanding of applicable program rules and regulations including Federal, State, County, and City, particularly for the Housing Opportunities for Persons with AIDS (HOPWA) program, Emergency Solutions Grant (ESG), and Community Development Block Grant (CDBG).
- Review Subrecipients monthly reimbursement request to determine eligibility and expenses for reimbursement.
- Complete required programmatic and regulatory trainings, attend conferences to obtain applicable client service information for sharing with other departmental staff

Physical Demand Depending on assignment, positions in this class typically exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly having to move objects.
