Description
DescriptionVacancy is in the Facilities Division of the Public Works Department.
Posting will remain open until sufficient applications are received . This is skilled work in the operation, maintenance and repair of heating, ventilating, air-conditioning, and their supportive systems; operation, maintenance and repair of the electrical switch gear, electric motors, lighting, and their supportive systems; operation, maintenance and repair of pumps, sump pumps, diesel emergency generator, heat exchanger, fan coil systems, and plumbing systems and fixtures. Places heating, ventilating, air conditioning and ice producing equipment in operation, checking various gauges and instruments which include levels of water, refrigerant and pressure; inspects equipment and service for leaks and faulty functioning, regulates service to designated areas, as required. Performs preventive maintenance and repairs on all H.V.A.C. and supportive systems; tests samples of cooling water in circulating systems and adds chemicals, as required. Performs preventive maintenance and repairs on all building electrical equipment and their supportive systems. Inspects entire systems and area serviced periodically to determine-proper functioning and maintenance; takes corrective action to eliminate malfunctions and reports unusual conditions to supervisor. Performs preventive maintenance and repairs on pumps, plumbing systems and fixtures. Performs the electrical plug-ins for tradeshows and other events staged at the Civic Center. Performs preventive maintenance, run-up and inspection of the diesel emergency generator. Records inspections and services performed on equipment in a daily log. This is a 1716 union position and the hours of work are 40 per week.Knowledge, Skills & AbilitiesThe examination will consist of rating your training and experience as contained on your application and may include a written test, an oral test, or a combination thereof. All parts of the examination, including tests and ratings, will be related to the requirements of the position. The examination is designed to measure:
Knowledge of: - Considerable knowledge of methods, practices, tools and materials used in heating, ventilating, air-conditioning, and refrigeration equipment operation, maintenance and repair work.
- Methods, practices and tools used in the several trades involved in the maintenance of electrical and plumbing systems.
- Occupational hazards and necessary safety precautions applicable to building equipment maintenance and repair work.
Ability to: - Interpret and work from sketches, diagrams, technical orders, manufacturer’s manuals and specifications;
- Trouble-shoot and repair complex H.V.A.C. equipment, electrical, plumbing and their supportive systems.
- Maintain records and reports; Communicate clearly and concisely, orally and in writing.
QualificationsOpen to all applicants who meet the following qualifications:Graduation from a standard high or vocational school with at least one course in each of the following areas: air conditioning, practical electricity, electrical theory and refrigeration
AND three (3) years of experience in the operation, maintenance and repair of the electrical and mechanical systems of a building.
HARTFORD RESIDENCY PREFERRED: Preferably be a bona-fide resident of the City of Hartford at the time of application. A completed CITY OF HARTFORD RESIDENCY AFFIDAVIT including proof of residency as indicated on the RESIDENCY AFFIDAVIT may be submitted.
