The City of Olathe is seeking an Entry-Level Civil Engineer II to join our team, focusing on Street Preservation projects. This role offers hands-on experience in public sector engineering and the opportunity to build a strong foundation in municipal infrastructure while working alongside experienced professionals.

The City of Olathe manages, maintains, and repairs over 1,300 lane miles of street pavement, including associated curbs and sidewalks. To maintain a Pavement Condition Index (PCI) of at least 70, we prioritize projects annually. Our pavement preservation strategies include crack sealing, microsurfacing, mill and overlay, and complete reconstruction. Funding for these projects comes from the Capital Improvement Plan, street maintenance sales tax, and additional funding sources such as grants.

As a Civil Engineer II, you will be part of a dynamic team, working on vital infrastructure projects that support the city's long-term goals. This is the first step in a two-level career progression from Civil Engineer II to Civil Engineer III, providing opportunities for growth and development.

Salary Range: $68,640-$91,360 depending on qualifications

The Civil Engineer II acts as the project manager for the design and construction of projects. Project scopes may include street preservation, street reconstruction, stormwater systems, water and wastewater systems, treatment facilities and rehabilitation projects, including inflow and infiltration (I&I) reduction.

The Civil Engineer II is the first level of a two-level career progression of Civil Engineer II - III.

Key Responsibilities



Qualifications

Experience: Twoor more years of engineering and project management experience is required. Experience working in a municipality or Public Works Department is preferred.Relevant experience may include an internship with a municipality, an engineering firm, or another relevant organization where the candidate gained practical knowledge in civil engineering or a related field.

Education: A bachelor's degree with major coursework in civil engineering or a related field is required. Additional relevant experience may be substituted for education.

Licenses & Certifications: Must have successfully passed the Fundamentals of Engineering exam. A valid driver’s license with a favorable driving record is also required.

Environmental or Physical Demands: Requires working in a variety of locations and conditions, commonly splitting time between an office setting and construction sites.
