GENERAL PURPOSE: Responsible for assisting Police Department personnel with law enforcement related tasks that does not require the authority of a commissioned officer.

Alternate dates for testing and interviews will not be available ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: The Community Service Officer is a uniformed civilian position within the Police Department.
- Assist commissioned officers with prisoner booking and processing.
- Transport non-violent prisoners to the Detention Center, Detoxification Center, and Municipal Court or to the Department of Child Services.
- Enforce laws and ordinances regarding abandoned vehicles.
- Enforce selected Municipal Codes with respect to police-related issues.
- Enforce municipal parking laws.
- Take complaints of minor crimes including cold theft, found and lost property reports, animal control etc.
- Complete paperwork necessary for treatment program registrations.
- Conduct minor accident investigations.
- Direct traffic during accident investigations, power outages, and infrastructure repairs.
- Complete required reports and forms related to all duties.
OTHER DUTIES: - Perform group presentations to organizations and agencies in the Loveland area.
- Other related duties as required and assigned.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS: Education: - High School Diploma or GED
- Successful completion of Department’s field training program for Community Service Officers prior to certification for solo patrol duties.
Experience: Law enforcement experience is preferred.
Skills, Knowledge, & Abilities: Must be 18 years of age and possess a valid Colorado driver's license. Reading and writing skills in the English language of sufficient level to accurately complete required reports, forms, and letters. Ability to work long and varied hours/shifts and adjust sleeping patterns. Vision quality allowing safe driving at night. Ability to sit for extended periods in an office environment. Must be able to drive a vehicle in a safe manner for extended periods of time. Ability to withstand extreme weather conditions from sub-freezing to hot, humid temperatures. Ability to exert sufficient physical force to protect self from combative subjects and assist in bringing them under control. Ability to successfully complete Department physical abilities test. Personal computer and typing skills sufficient to satisfactorily perform required operations.
Material and Equipment Directly Used: Motor vehicle, baton, mace, handcuffs, Conducted Electrical Weapon (CEW), leg restraints, computer, police band radio, telephone (cellular and stationary), laptop computer and flashlight.
Working Environment/Physical Activities: Walking, standing, running, stooping, kneeling, reaching, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, crawling, bending, climbing, feeling, talking, seeing (includes distinguishing color), hearing and conducting repetitive motions. Operating a motor vehicle, operation of mobile and portable radios, baton, mace, electronic control device, computer/typewriter keyboard, telephone, handcuffs, direct traffic and assist in the control of combative and intoxicated subjects. Extended periods of time with little rest or sleep. Extended period of time spent in vehicle sitting and driving. Extended periods of time spent sitting in office environment. Exposure to bodily fluids and hazardous materials.
