The BeautifySJ is a blight reduction, neighborhood beautification, and encampment management program within the Community Services Division of the Parks, Recreation, and Neighborhood Services Department. BeautifySJ Programs include, the Graffiti Removal Program, Illegal Dumping Program, Neighborhood Dumpster Day Program, Neighborhood Litter Program, Recreational Vehicle Pollution Prevention Program, Encampment Trash Removal Program, Encampment Abatement Program, Clean Gateways, and Cash for Trash Program.

Position Duties

The Parks, Recreation, and Neighborhood Services Department is currently seeking to fill multiple full-time Community Activity Worker vacancies in the Parks, Recreation, and Neighborhood Services Department.

Salary range for the Community Activity Worker classification is:
This salary range(s) includes an approximate five percent (5%) ongoing non-pensionable compensation. Actual salary shall be determined by the final candidates’ qualifications and experience.

The selected Community Activity Worker’s will assist with one of a variety of blight reduction and encampment management programs and services in neighborhoods and/or homeless encampments. The BeautifySJ Program headquarters are located at Kirk Community Center. The position works 40 hours per week with a typical schedule of Monday-Friday or Tuesday-Saturday, 7:30am-4:30pm but will vary depending on activities and events and may be required for evening and weekend work.

Minimum Qualifications

Education: Graduation from high school or equivalent (General Education Development (GED) Test or California Proficiency Certificate)

Experience: Two years of full-time equivalent experience (4160 hours) in organizing groups for community action.

Acceptable Substitutions: One year of college (30 semester units) may be substituted for one year of the required experience.

Computer Skills - Experienced with common business computer applications including but not limited to: MS Outlook, MS Word, MS PowerPoint, MS Access, and MS Excel.

Social Awareness: Demonstrates the ability to read or sense other people’s emotions and how they influence the situation of interest or concern; demonstrates empathy and organizational awareness.
