Description
TPWD MISSION To manage and conserve the natural and cultural resources of Texas and to provide hunting, fishing and outdoor recreation opportunities for the use and enjoyment of present and future generations.

PHYSICAL WORK ADDRESS: Balmorhea State Park, 2907 TX-17, Toyahvale, TX 79786
GENERAL DESCRIPTION: Balmorhea State Park is a highly seasonal visitation park where staff works shifts other than 8-5. During the busy season, staff will be expected to work 8 hours shifts, ranging from early morning to late at night. Days off are generally scheduled to be back-to-back but are not guaranteed to be on Saturday and Sunday.
Under the direction of the Lead Maintenance Supervisor, this position performs entry-level building maintenance and construction work and is responsible in the daily operation of park facilities, grounds, equipment operations and visitor services for Balmorhea State Park. Operates all types of equipment such as trucks, UTVs, mowers and weed-eaters. Provides quality visitor services by providing information to park visitors and responding to requests. Assists in enforcing park rules and regulations, perform resource management tasks and interprets the park natural resources. Works under close supervision, with minimal latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment. Performs additional duties as assigned. Complies with all Agency, Division, and Branch rules, and procedures.
Qualifications: MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Education: Completion of 8th grade.
Experience: One year facility, equipment or grounds maintenance experience.
Licensure: Applicant must possess a valid State driver's license.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Experience: Experience working with the public;
Experience with customer service and/or public relations.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES Knowledge of basic building and facility maintenance techniques;
Knowledge of landscaping and grounds maintenance techniques;
Knowledge of basic mathematics;
Skill in effective verbal and written communication;
Skill in providing quality customer service in a courteous and professional manner;
Skill in cleaning and sanitation of bathrooms using chemicals in accordance with directions on labels;
Skill in use of various hand and power tools;
Ability to work independently with little or no supervision;
Ability to work effectively as a team member in a fast-paced environment;
Ability to follow park rules and regulations;
Ability to perform manual labor, including lifting supplies and materials up to 50 lbs.;
Ability to conduct work activities in accordance with TPWD safety program.
WORKING CONDITIONS: Required to work 40 hours per week with hours other than 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and days off other than Saturdays, Sundays and holidays;
Hours may be reduced or extended as needed;
Must be able to adjust to changing schedules;
Must conform to TPWD dress and grooming standards, work rules and safety procedures;
Required to perform work outdoors, occasionally in adverse weather conditions;
Required to perform manual labor including, lifting supplies and materials up to 50 lbs.;
Required to travel 5% with possible overnight stays;
May be required to operate a State vehicle;
Non-smoking environment in State buildings and vehicles.
