The Human Resources Department is accepting applications for the seasonal, temporary and part-time position of College Intern in the Electric Department. This position is limited to no more than 40 hours per week for a maximum of 1000 hours per fiscal year. The length of the internship will be approximately June 2025 to August 2025, with a work schedule of Monday through Friday, 8:00 am to 5:00 pm.

Positions are available in the Transmission & Distribution Engineering Division. The T&D Engineering Division is responsible for all aspects of engineering work related to operating and maintaining the Roseville Electric Utility system. This includes functions such as substation design, protection and controls, distribution operations and planning, sub-transmission operations and planning, and asset management.

The selected candidate will be assigned meaningful projects in the aforementioned area. Roseville Electric Utility serves more than 68,000 customers with a peak demand of approximately 375MW and also owns and operates over 200MW of generation facilities.

Minimum Qualifications

EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING

Experience :

None required.

AND

Training :

Equivalent to the completion the twelfth (12th) grade. Current enrollment in six or more units towards a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree from an accredited college or university in Public Administration, Business Administration or a field related to area of assignment.

License or Certificate :

Based on the needs of the department, some positions may require possession of a valid California driver’s license by date of appointment.

SELECTION PROCESS :
All candidates meeting the minimum qualifications will have their application scored in a Formula Rate Examination. The applicant’s experience and education will be evaluated using a pre-determined formula. Scores from this evaluation will determine applicant ranking and placement on the Employment List. Supplemental questions will be utilized by the department hiring authority to make interview and selection determinations.

Final appointment is contingent upon a check of past employment references, passing a City-paid fingerprint check, and depending on the position applied for, a pre-employment medical exam, drug and alcohol screening test, credit check, license and/or education verification, psychological examination, and/or an extensive Police Department background check process.
Some positions require the clearance of a comprehensive Police Department (PD) background check within 12 months of appointment. The City may appoint candidates to positions prior to clearing the extensive Police Department background check, and in those circumstances the candidate will be advised in advance that security access in the information technology systems will be limited to non-PD related systems until PD clearance is received, and if the candidate ultimately does not clear the PD background it will result in release from City service without appeal rights, in accordance with Personnel Rules 3.04.050.
