ABOUT LOS ANGELES COUNTY DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH SERVICES: The Los Angeles County Department of Health Services (DHS) is the second largest municipal health system in the nation. Through academic affiliations with the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), the University of Southern California (USC), and the Charles R. Drew University of Medicine and Sciences (CDU), DHS hospitals are training sites for physicians completing their Graduate Medical Education in nearly every medical specialty and subspecialty. In addition, to its direct clinical services, DHS also runs the Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Agency and the County's 911 emergency response system, as well as Housing for Health and the Office of Diversion and Re-entry, each with a critical role in connecting vulnerable populations, including those released from correctional and institutional settings, to supportive housing.

DEFINITION:Performs the more difficult work in an institutional or hospital laundry or linen service or acts as a lead person of a small team of workers.
Essential Job FunctionsLoads linen carts in accordance with established linen supply requirements and delivers clean linen from laundry processing areas or linen rooms to hospital wards, clinics, and institutional live-in units, keeping records of deliveries.
Assists in the unloading of clean linen from delivery trucks, transports linen in carts to the linen room, unloads linen carts and stores linen on storage shelves.
Checks clean linen received from laundry vendor services for items needing rewashing and records weight of items received.
Provides relief for the supervisor a substantial portion of the time.
Receives orders and complaints from personnel of other hospital units, and takes action to see that orders are made up and complaints are resolved.
Issues hospital uniforms and maintains records of uniforms issued.
Assists in counting linen during inventory.
Assists in keeping records of soiled linen poundage, rewashes, daily usage, and badly worn linen.
Operates and acts as lead worker in the operation of flatwork ironers, keeping records of time worked by staff.
Issues and receives personal laundry to and from hospital employees.
Marks uniforms using hot stamp machines as assigned
Requirements MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: Six (6) months of experience in laundry work in an institutional* or commercial** laundry.
*Institutional laundry facilities are defined as juvenile detention centers, jails, prisons or residential care facilities.
**Commercial laundry facilities are defined as experience working in hotels or industrial laundry facilities.
PHYSICAL CLASS III - MODERATE: Includes standing or walking most of the time, with bending, stooping, squatting, twisting, and reaching; includes working on irregular surfaces, occasionally lifting objects weighing over 25 pounds, and frequent lifting of 10 - 25 pounds.
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS: - Additional points will be awarded for additional experience beyond the Minimum Requirements
- Experience in using Microsoft Excel, Word or Access: To receive additional points, applicants must clearly demonstrate experience using one of these programs on their application or in the supplemental questionnaire section.

Additional Information EXAMINATION CONTENT: This examination will consist of an evaluation of experience based upon application information and desirable qualifications weighted 100%.
Candidates must achieve a passing score of 70% or higher on this examination in order to be placed on the Eligible Register. ELIGIBILITY INFORMATION: Applications will be processed on an "as-received" basis and those receiving a passing score will be promulgated to the eligible register accordingly. The names of candidates receiving a passing score in the examination will be added to the eligible register in the order of their score group for a period of twelve (12) months following the date of promulgation.
NO PERSON MAY COMPETE IN THIS EXAMINATION MORE THAN ONCE EVERY TWELVE (12) MONTHS.
SPECIAL INFORMATION AVAILABLE SHIFT:
Appointees may be required to work any shift, including evenings, nights, weekends and holidays.
