The Tulare County Health & Human Services Agency (HHSA) is currently recruiting for a qualified Registered Dietitian to join the Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) program in the Public Health Branch. WIC is designed to help families with pregnant women, new mothers, children, and infants between ages 0-5 years old learn healthy eating behaviors and give children a healthy start for positive health outcomes. WIC provides nutrition education, counseling, breastfeeding support, referrals to health care, social services, and more.
WIC is a federally funded program, contracted through the State and administered by the County. The WIC program serves eleven locations throughout the county, with the main office in Visalia. The program serves over 22,000 enrolled participants. Clinic sizes vary from 500 to 6,000 participants, and staffing varies accordingly.

Typical Duties- Supervisory responsibilities, including but not limited to creating weekly staff schedule, conducting performance appraisals, staff training, communicating policy and procedure updates, and coordination of direct services, staff, and office operations
- Assume an active role in promoting the nutrition aspects of programs, such as the Women, Infants, and Children program, Nutrition Education Obesity Prevention program, and other County nutrition programs and projects
- Oversee the training of nutrition education and breastfeeding counseling and support for the paraprofessional staff
- Conduct staff counseling audits on statewide information systems to monitor compliance with program standards
- Plan and/or participate in program outreach activities and programs
Minimum QualificationsCandidates must meet the qualifications listed below by the application deadline .
- Graduated from an accredited college or university with a bachelor's degree in nutrition, dietetics, food and nutrition, or a related area
- Completion of Commission on Accreditation of Dietetics Education (CADE) accredited Didactic Program in Dietetics
- Completion of Accreditation of Dietetics Internship Program or Accredited Coordinated Program.
- Registered as a Dietitian with the Commission on Dietetic Registration of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics
- Maintenance of the Registered Dietitian level throughout employment in this classification with Tulare County
- Six months of nutritional background work. Internship experience may qualify towards requirement.
Desirable Qualifications Additional InformationConditions of Employment- Possession of, or ability to obtain, an appropriate, valid California driver's license. The selected candidate will be required to pass a pre-employment drug and alcohol screening; furthermore, a background investigation may be conducted. Some job classes may also require a physical examination.

Retirement: The retirement plan is a defined benefit plan administered pursuant to the 1937 Act County Employees Retirement Act and integrated with Social Security. In addition to ordinary retirement benefits, the plan provides disability and death benefits. Retirement contributions are made by both the County and the employee. The County has reciprocity with the State of California, contracting PERS agencies, and all County 1937 Act Retirement Systems.
Paid Holiday Leave: 12 set days and 1 personal holiday

Vacation Accrual: 2 weeks per year (0-3 years of service)
3 weeks per year (3-7 years of service)
4 weeks per year (7-11 years of service)
5 weeks per year (11+ years of service)
Limit of 300 hours.
FLSA exempt employees accrue an additional 5 days of vacation per year.
Sick Leave Accrual: 12 days per year with unlimited accumulation, 50 hours of which may be used toward family sick leave.
Group Term Life Insurance and AD&D: $10,000; Provided by Standard Insurance Company

Disability Insurance: Employees are covered by State Disability Insurance. The premium is paid by the employee.
Deferred Compensation: A voluntary deferred compensation plan is available.
