Job Summary

The City of Olathe is seeking a dedicated individual with a strong commitment to safety, leadership, and creating a positive, secure environment for both staff and patrons at the Olathe Community Center. We are hiring a full-time Lead Lifeguard who will serve as the designated shift leader, ensuring the safe operation of the facility. In this role, the Lead Lifeguard will also take on multiple responsibilities, including swim lesson instructor, lifeguard instructor, and customer service duties. They will conduct monthly swim lessons for participants of all ages, starting at 4 months and older.

Additionally, the Lead Lifeguard will assist in teaching lifeguard certification classes, in-service trainings, recertifications, and other aquatic professional development programs. They will be responsible for completing reports and assessments as needed and play an active role in developing staff training protocols, as well as in-service and swim lesson curricula. This position offers the opportunity to grow professionally while fostering a safe and engaging environment at the aquatic facility.

Starting salary - $16.50 an hour. The Lead Lifeguard is the designated lead worker for an aquatic facility with the primary focus on overseeing daily operations and ensuring safe operation of the facility. Lead lifeguards may work in the capacity of multiple roles staffing the aquatic facility, including swim lessons, lifeguard instruction, lifeguard, and customer service roles as needed.

Qualifications

Experience: At least three years progressively responsible experience in the operations of an aquatic facility is required. Demonstrated leadership and problem solving skills are essential along with strong communication and customer service skills.

Education: A high school Diploma or equivalent is required.

Licenses & Certifications: Valid American Red Cross Lifeguard Training Certificate, Waterpark Certificate, AED, and CPR.
