*** This program is open to Transitioning Service Members Only As Part of the DOD SkillBridge Program.*** The DOD SkillBridge program gives service members the chance to gain valuable civilian work experience. It offers specific industry training, apprenticeships or internships during the last 180 days of military service. The program connects service members with industry partners in real-world job experiences. The City of Atlanta- Department of City Planning is now offering SkillBridge opportunities to service members interested in the following career opportunities:
Building Inspector Sr or Electrical Inspector Sr.
You’ll be provided an opportunity through SkillBridge to “earn as you learn” and gain real world experience working alongside industry professionals. After you transition from service you may have the option to be hired into a permanent full-time position with the City of Atlanta. Ideal candidates will be active duty with at least 180 days remaining, approved for participation from your command, possess a HS diploma or GED, and be authorized to work in the US.
You may be eligible to participate in SkillBridge if you:
- Have 180 days of service or fewer remaining prior to your date of discharge and you have at least 180 continuous days of active service.
- Obtain approval from your unit commander.
- Agree that participation in SkillBridge can be terminated at any time by the service if mission requirements dictate.
Starting salary - $26.00 per hour, after obtaining an ICC certification, salary will be $27.30 per hour.
Minimum Qualifications - Education and ExperienceHigh school diploma or GED. Five years of work experience as an electrical contractor or journeyman electrician (in residential, commercial, industrial and low voltage) is required (or equivalent combination of experience and training).
Preferred Education & ExperienceAssociates degree or vocational training in topics such as electrical wiring, architectural drawing, electricity, building codes and carpentry; continuing education is desirable. Ten years of related work experience is preferred (equivalent professional experience may be considered for substitution for the required degree on an exception basis).
Licensures and Certifications Position would be expected to have licensure or professional certifications appropriate to the position.
Required: Valid Georgia driver’s license
Required: Must have a Residential Electrical Inspector certification from the ICC or International Association of Electrical Inspectors (IAEI).
Preferred: State of Georgia Electrical Contractor License
