Fall 2025 The Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at California State University, Fullerton, invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in Geotechnical Engineering within Civil Engineering with an appointment to begin in Fall 2025. Demonstrated laboratory-based teaching and research experience is desirable.

Position
CSUF faculty are committed teachers/scholars who bring research and creative discovery to life for students in classrooms, labs, studios, and individually mentored projects. They teach broadly in the curricula of their departments, advise students, and serve on departmental and university-wide committees. The primary responsibilities in this position will include developing and teaching a broad array of fundamental classes and laboratory-based courses as well as upper division and graduate courses in their area(s) of specialization. This person will also be responsible for producing scholarly and creative work commensurate with the requirements for tenure and promotion. The successful candidate will also be expected to contribute to and participate in the life and development of the department, advise students, serve on committees, and participate in the broader university and disciplinary communities.
Required Qualifications - an undergraduate degree and Ph.D. in Civil Engineering or a closely related field
- ability to teach undergraduate and graduate courses, including laboratory courses
- demonstrated commitment to and excellence in undergraduate teaching of a very diverse student population, including first-generation college students
- demonstrated potential for effective integration of technology into instruction
- a strong record of scholarly accomplishments through high-quality peer-reviewed publications in the past five years
- high potential to develop and pursue an independent externally funded research program involving undergraduate and graduate students
- demonstrated laboratory-based research experience
- ability and willingness to promote undergraduate and graduate student success through research, mentorship, advising, co-curricular activities, and other high-impact practices
- ability to balance excellent teaching, scholarship, and service
- Professional registration as a Civil Engineer or ability and willingness to get Professional Engineering (PE) licensure within five years of appointment
Preferred Qualifications - University-level teaching experience in Civil Engineering
- Demonstrated experience pursuing externally funded research projects
- Post-baccalaureate professional work experience in Civil Engineering

The Department of Civil & Environmental Engineering offers a B.S. in Civil Engineering, an M.S. in Civil Engineering, and an online M.S. in Environmental Engineering. The B.S. in Civil Engineering program is ranked 8th in the nation among non-PhD granting institutions. The M.S. in Environmental Engineering is ranked 30 th in the nation and 3 rd in California among online engineering programs by U.S. News & World Report. Compensation
The Assistant Professor (Academic Year) classification salary range is $5,925 to $12,594 monthly (12 monthly payments per academic year). The anticipated hiring range is $8,233 to $8,394 per month.
Salary offered is commensurate with experience and qualifications. In addition, the California Equal Pay Act prohibits employers from paying its employees less than those of the opposite sex and/or another race or ethnicity for substantially similar work ( https://www.dir.ca.gov/dlse/california_equal_pay_act.htm ).
Summer research grants, moving expenses, start-up funds, and a reduced teaching load may be available.
